NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Internet is buzzing once again as one particular story has reignited the infinitely unsettling battle of who's the best rapper of this generation. Hip-hop heads have several choices - YoungBoy NBA, Eminem, Drake, J Cole, Lil Wayne, 21 Savage, Jay Z, Nas, Kodak Black, etc - but it looks like the most important rapper has been named. It's none other than Kendrick Lamar who is still enjoying the imploding success of his fifth studio album 'Mr Morale & the Big Steppers'.

In the recent New York Times Magazine edition, titled 'Kendrick Lamar’s New Chapter: Raw, Intimate and Unconstrained', the 35-year-old was named "the most important rapper of his generation" and the "most elliptical too, sharing revelatory self-portraits in his work but little of himself outside it." So far, Kendrick has sold 9,440,633 albums, including 7,500,000 in the United States and 700,000 in the United Kingdom. He has released five studio albums which are 'Section 80', fan-favorite 'Good Kid, MAAD City', 'To Pimp a Butterfly', 'Damn', and 'Mr Morale & the Big Steppers'. While the numbers indicate toward the 'Humble' rapper is successful, many people think that Kendrick should not be considered the best right away. They have other choices and the two most obvious contestants are J Cole and Drake

New York Times then posted a tweet calling Kendrick the greatest, "Kendrick Lamar, the greatest rapper of his generation. Kendrick and Dave Free collaborated on his recent music video 'Count Me Out' featuring Helen Mirren.

Mixed reactions after NYT names Kendrick Lamar the 'most important rapper' of this GEN

One user was not happy with the analysis and preached for their favorite rapper Drake saying, "Any answer besides drake you in yo feelings or whoever you say is YOUR favorite. Like fam, where does drake lack as a rapper. Hits? Lyricism? Dominance? Changing the game? Like tell me where drake isnt great at to make this make sense fr." Another user said, "Many may not wana say this, but Kendrick is overrated. Great lyricist but Jay Z, Nas, Drake, J Cole and Eminem have better catalogues." One user did not strip Kendrick of his title but placed him along the rest and wrote, "he is one of the greatest alongside J Cole, Lil Wayne, Drake, Logic, Mac Miller and Kanye West"

Some people were happy to call Kendrick the GOAT as one user said, "Duh Drake makes hits, Kendrick makes Timeless music with educational meaning. 30 years from now we’ll still listen to “feel” “DNA” ”alright” etc." Another user said, "And top greatest performer in hiphop and maybe performer in general. y’all with this subjective Drake take…. NYT talkin bout mainstream success, lyricism, catalog, culture impact & overall brand. Drake is like the Brittany spears of hiphop(manufactured)." One more user said, "I don’t understand why this is a bad thing. he waited a long time between his music because he didn’t feel the time was right and he wanted to release what he thought was his best work. i’d rather have a good album every 4-6 years than a meh album every year like drake does"
