James Gunn shoots down '100 % fake' news about Silver Surfer or Galactus appearing in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'

After posts quoting him as hinting their introductions to the MCU started doing the rounds, Gunn has clarified that there are no plans for their appearance

With Disney's acquisition of Fox, fans have been keeping their eyes and ears out for any news of the Fox-owned Marvel characters to finally make their appearance in the MCU. They'll have to wait a little longer, as a fake post hinting that the Silver Sufer and Galactus might appear in the MCU has been shot down by James Gunn.

James Gunn posted a screenshot of the post on his own Instagram, stating that the screenshot was a fake. "This is going around a lot of fan sites now. I didn’t answer this and delete this - I never said it at all. (Not did I ever have any such discussions with Marvel). It’s 100% fake," he wrote. The fake post sees Gunn saying "I've had some discussions' in response to a fan's question about the appearance of Galactus and the Silver Surfer in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."

Galactus, in the comics, is a cosmic eater of planets, older than time. Planets suitable for consumption were found by his Herald, the Silver Surfer, until the Surfer rebelled against his Master in order to save the Earth from destruction with the aid of the Fantastic Four. Due to being characters closely associated with the Fantastic Four, they were part of the Fox deal that got them the rights to the Fantastic Four franchise. A scene featuring the Silver Surfer was actually homaged in 'Avengers: Infinity War' when the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) crashed through the ceiling of Doctor Strange's roof to warn them of the coming of Thanos. In the original 'Infinity War,' it was the Silver Surfer who crashed through the roof to warn Earth's heroes of what was coming.

Neither the Silver Surfer nor Galactus would be out of place in the next 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie - after all, the second film in the trilogy featured Ego (Kurt Russell), another Marvel character who is a sentient planet. Few details about 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' are known, especially as James Gunn is currently at work at DC, directing the next 'Suicide Squad' movie, which is set to release August 6 in 2021.
