No 'Captain Marvel' or 'Avengers 4' but you can see Marvel TV's 'Iron Fist' and 'The Punisher' at the SDCC 2018

With the usual host of SDCC panels slightly shaken, the event would indeed be missing the heavyweights in 2018 including Star Wars and Game of Thrones.

Comic book adaptation lovers have come to associate the annual SDCC as the mecca for all superhero stuff. Each year, the mega movie event not only hosts panels featuring the cast of some of the popular movie and TV franchises but also sources out exclusive details and updates from the sets of these most-anticipated projects.

Unfortunately for Marvel fans, the 2018 SDCC, which gets underway from July 19 to 22, will be a bit of a disappointment. With Marvel Studios giving a miss to the Hall H panel for the first time since 2015, there would surely be a dearth of information as far as the movie side of the franchise is concerned. More so for upcoming blockbusters like Brie Larson-starring 'Captain Marvel' or the 2019 ensemble movie from the franchise, the untitled Avengers 4 movie.

But on the brighter side, dedicated movie news sites are reporting that Marvel's TV unit would be making up for the no-show by the movies. Apparently, Marvel and Netflix collaboration, 'Iron Fist' will be present at the SDCC International to discuss the upcoming season of the Finn Jones-starring series.

Jones, who is reprising his role after a lukewarm response to the debut season of the superhero show, will be joined by a host of fellow cast members and producers. Despite 'Iron Fist' failing to gain mileage, the actor with his rare action-packed glimpses in the last season of the Netflix series had managed to turn heads. One of the reasons why Jones has even been added to the cast for a cameo in season 2 of the other Marvel Netflix show, 'Luke Cage'.

Apart from 'Iron Fist', another Netflix breakout is also expected to show up during next month's SDCC - Jon Bernthal-starring 'The Punisher'. Interestingly, the speculations were fueled by Bernthal's TV upcoming appearance in the zombie apocalypse show, 'The Walking Dead'. With his name being associated with TWD's season 9, rumors are rife that he might be appearing with the show's cast at the SDCC 2018.

And if he makes it to the TWD panel, it's rather foreseeable that another such panel is put together for "The Punisher" as well. After all the Marvel series following Frank Castle's vigilante has already finished filming its second season and is currently believed to be in post-production.

The same goes for 'Daredevil' as well, which has a season 3 in the pipeline but a premiere date is yet to be announced. With the usual host of SDCC panels slightly shaken, the event would indeed be missing the heavyweights in 2018 including Star Wars and Game of Thrones.
