Nicolas Cage ‘accidentally drank his own blood’ while playing Dracula in horror comedy 'Renfield'
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage recently revealed an exciting incident that took place while filming the brand new Universal horror comedy 'Renfield', where he played Count Dracula alongside co-star Nicholas Hoult's character, 'Renfield'. Cage and Hoult participated in an ask me anything (AMA) on Reddit to promote the movie, where they interacted with fans and answered their queries.
One curious user asked if any real blood was consumed while making the film. Cage responded by saying, “No reason in terms of method, but the fangs were genuine fangs, they were ceramic and quite pointy. So I did bite my lip a few times which made me drink my own blood,” Cage revealed before Hoult exclaimed: “I quite like the taste of my own blood”. Adding a touch of his own personality, Cage ended the question by adding: “There is something warm and fuzzy about it”.

Cage's dedication to his role in 'Renfield'
Cage has gone to great lengths to portray the role of Count Dracula in the upcoming comedy-horror movie 'Renfield'. The 59-year-old actor wore fangs continuously to enhance his voice for the role. Despite the difficulty of speaking with the ceramic material in his mouth, Cage persisted to give the character an eloquent and elegant voice. Cage shared his experience with the fangs, stating to The Sun newspaper, "I got used to it by taking them home and leaving them in when I was in my hotel room." The director of the movie recently spoke to Insider about Nicolas Cage's dedication to his role in the upcoming film 'Renfield'. According to McKay, Cage stayed in character even after the cameras stopped rolling.
'He's a little frosty in the scene'
"Whatever scene we did he would still be 100% living in that attitude after we stopped shooting," McKay explained during a weekend promotion for the movie. "So if he's a little frosty in the scene he's going to have a little bit of that between takes. But still up for whatever we were doing", he added. McKay went on to say that there were times when he needed to have a serious conversation with Cage about a scene, but the actor remained in character as Dracula. "There would be times where I'd have to have a real conversation with him about what we were doing, and he'd still be the character," McKay said.
Universal's latest vampire comedy-horror, 'Renfield', is a unique take on the classic tale of Dracula's loyal servant and henchman. The film sheds light on Renfield's overworked and stressed-out life, and how he has finally reached his limit after centuries of servitude. Starring Shohreh Aghdashloo, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Caroline Williams, and Nicholas Hoult as the titular character, 'Renfield' is directed by Chris McKay, known for his works such as 'The Lego Batman Movie' and 'The Tomorrow War'. 'Renfield' is produced by Skybound Entertainment and is set to hit theatres on April 14, distributed by Universal Pictures.
