Nicki Minaj-NBA YoungBoy collab 'What That Speed Bout' drops, fans say Cardi B's 'WAP' 'doesn’t even come close'
Rappers Nicki Minaj and YoungBoy NeverBrokeAgain have collaborated for the very first time for their highly anticipated single 'What That Speed Bout'. The track, which released on all streaming platforms on November 6, 2020, was earlier teased by Nicki in an Instagram post with images from the set of the music video.
The 'Anaconda' rapper, who is expecting a child at the moment, wrote on Instagram, "#WhatThatSpeedBout THURSDAY NIGHT NBA YOUNG BOY X BARBIE X MIKE WILL" The Instagram post has YoungBoy standing alongside Nicki in all white. It has received over 4.3 million likes on the platform. 'What That Speed Bout' has been produced by Mike WiLL Made-It and features co-production from 30 Roc. It will be part of Mike WiLL Made-It's as-of-yet untitled third studio album and is the first single to be dropped from the upcoming record. 'What That Speed Bout' was first teased by YoungBoy in a July 2020 Twitter post, which has since been deleted. Later, in August 2020, Mike WiLL Made-It previewed the song during an Instagram Livestream. The track is a dream come true for the 21-year-old NBA YoungBoy, who is a self-professed lifelong Nicki fan. He even dropped a track titled 'Nicki Minaj' back in 2018. Like always, with each Nicki release, comparisons were made to Cardi B's songs, in particular to her #1 hit 'WAP'. One Nicki fan wrote, "Funny how iTunes chart wanna crash when Nicki Minaj puts out a song...But when 'WAP' dropped, everything was perfectly up & running & all major platforms were promoting the f**k outta the song...Enough is enough with the cheating! We’re probably already #1 they hate to see it," while another said, "Nicki said fuck 'WAP' go wash that P***Y FIRST H**S." A cardi fan wrote, "But my fave is demolishing Nicki in both streams & sales 'WAP' is on pace to be 7x platinum by next month. When’s the last time a Nicki song went 7x platinum?" to which a Nicki fan replied saying, "The way 'WAP' would be one of Nicki’s worst songs. Ole girl doesn’t even come close."
