'Nepo babies have feelings': Lily Allen says children of celebrities are 'starved of love and stability'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer-songwriter Lily Allen has come in defense of children with famous parents and talked at length about the ongoing ‘nepo babies’ debate. The ‘Smile’ singer feels that they are being turned into scapegoats for a larger system failure when it comes to equal opportunities. The daughter of actor Keith Allen, who has worked in movies such as 'Trainspotting', and mother Alison Owen, who produced flicks such as 'The Other Boleyn Girl', said on Twitter that nepo babies are 'starved of stability and love’ as children, and that the entertainment industry is not ‘parent friendly.'
The 37-year-old wrote, “The nepo babies y’all should be worrying about are the ones working for legal firms, the ones working for banks, and the ones working in politics, If we’re talking about real world consequences and robbing people of opportunity. BUT that’s none of my business.” A few hours later she tweeted again, “And entertainment business is not parent friendly eg.. Touring/ months away shooting. It can be hard to see one’s own privilege when you’re still processing childhood trauma, and a lot of these kids haven’t figured that out yet.

The ’Hard Out Here’ singer also responded to one of the comments by a fan, emphasizing that nepotism "does a huge disservice to poorer artistic communities," Allen said that a fairer society would "create more opportunity."
"People wouldn't have to choose financial security if the industries i listed above didn't rig the system against them," she wrote. "That was kind of my point." Allen got married to 'Stranger Things' star David Harbour in 2020, who too got involved in his wife’s recent take on the discussion that got highlighted after a detailed article was published by New York magazine as a cover story. Harbour said her tweets seemed "to have riled people up," reports People.
Look, I seem to have riled people up with my comments about nepo babies. I am nearly 40 years of age and am more than happy, in fact I think it’s important to disclose what a privileged upbringing I’ve had and how that has created so many opportunities for me,

"It is quite clear that there is a severe lack of representation in the industry where class and race are concerned. Everyone loses as a result," Allen wrote on the importance of being open about the advantage one gets because of being well-connected. The Grammy-nominated went on to say, “I promise you I’m not rooting for an industry full of people that had childhoods that looked like mine. I just really think that we can’t get to a real solution without identifying the real problem, as fun as it is to laugh at the kids of famous people. Nepo babies have feelings.”
