'Get out of that place': Neil Young tells Spotify employees to QUIT in open letter
Musician Neil Young takes a dig at Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, two weeks after removing his music from the platform, claiming the company was spreading fake information about vaccines through Joe Rogan's podcast. In an open letter posted to his website on Monday, February 7, Young urged Spotify workers to "get out of that place before it eats up your soul."
In a new open letter on the Neil Young Archives website, Young wrote, "To the musicians and creators in this world, I say this: You must be able to find a better place than Spotify to be the home of your art." He further added, "To the workers at Spotify, I say Daniel Ek is your problem - not Joe Rogan. Ek pulls the strings. Get out of the place before it eats up your soul. The goals stated by EK are about numbers — not art, not creativity."

Apart from taking a dig at the Spotify CEO, Young in his new post turned his focus to financial institutions that are not using their resources to combat climate change. He appealed to members of his generation to put their money elsewhere. The folk legend wrote, "To baby boomers, I say that 70 percent of your country’s financial assets are in your hands compared with just 5 percent for millennials. You and I need to lead…In our age of Climate Chaos, I say ditch the companies contributing to the mass fossil fuel destruction of Earth."
He continued, "For their continued funding of the fossil fuel damage even as the global temperature keeps climbing, I say take your money from the accounts of these American banks today: Chase, Citi, Bank of America, Wells Fargo. Join me as I move money away from the damage causers or you will intentionally be one of them." "You have the power to change the world. We can do it together. Your grandchildren will thank you in history," the musician added.
Meanwhile, Twitterati had a mixed reaction to Neil Young's open letter. Most of them supported the fight the musician has been carrying for two weeks, while others wondered about the fate of employees who quit Spotify. One fan wrote, "Go Neil. Fighting the good fight for Music." Another echoed, "Keep in Rockin' Neil!", while a third wrote, "Neil is fighting on behalf of big pharma and he doesn't even know it."
"Is Neil Young planning to pay the Spotify employees he is encouraging to quit? What kind of person actually thinks hard working people can/should quit because he thinks good idea to support his nonsensical mission! No income for them, but he has millions! Time Neil moves on!" wrote one user. Another said, "Doubt that people are going to quit their job because Neil Young told them to. There are limits." "He sold his music to Blackstone, a corporation with no soul," added someone else.
