'My 600-lb Life': David dumps Mary after weight loss, says he 'settled' for her when he was overweight
When David first appeared on the show he weighed nearly 700lbs. However, he soon lost most of the weight when he dedicated himself to reaching the weight loss goal. One year after the surgery, David revealed he had lost nearly 300lbs since the surgery and was working on losing more weight every day.
David had first appeared on the show along with his brother Benji. The bond between the brothers was unbreakable but things changed once they started losing weight. Their idea of how to go ahead with life was different that led them to head their separate ways. While Benji was happily married and the couple was busy raising their beautiful daughter together, David had questions about his relationship with his girlfriend Mary.
Mary and David had been in a relationship for a long time and she stood by him during his weight loss surgery. However, there were times when she would eat junk food around David, making it hard for him to lose weight. This convinced David that Mary was his enabler. After losing a lot of weight, David revealed he was set to break up with Mary.
He explained he was struggling in his relationship with Mary for a long time and was not too happy to know that she was his enabler. David added that he settled for Mary because when one is overweight, "you take what you have".
David also stated that he thinks he deserves someone better than Mary as she was someone who resented his weight loss rather than supporting him. The pair ultimately broke up and David seemed happy to end his relationship.
He soon moved on with another woman named Carrie and the two seemed to be in love. While David decided to end things with Mary, fans were not happy with how she was being treated. "I understand that people change and that relationships end but for David to say that he only settled for Mary because he was fat when she literally used to help him clean his ass... I'd set everything on fire," read one comment.
Another added, "I still can't get over how David used Mary... then dumped her." Another reminded him, "David feeling himself, not realizing pride comes before a fall." While David seems happy in his new relationship, it seems like fans are not happy about the breakup.
