The MTV Video Music Awards this year is a star-studded event featuring the best of all genres. The show itself will take place in front of "limited or no audience" but several pre-recorded awards and performances have already been keeping fans entertained as they await the biggest moments of the night, including acts like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.

The pop divas are both nominated in several categories, leading the pack with nine nods each. They've already bagged one of these awards, winning in the Best Collaboration category for their hit song 'Rain On Me'. Grande was nominated in the same category for her song with Justin Bieber, 'Stuck with U'. The other nominations for the category included Black Eyed Peas featuring J Balvin for 'RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)', Ed Sheeran featuring Khalid for 'Beautiful People', Future featuring Drake for 'Life Is Good' and Karol G featuring Nicki Minaj for 'Tusa'.

Gaga and Grande's 'Rain On Me' was a highly-anticipated collaboration that had the fandoms of both acts soaring upon its release. But it also drew support from fandoms of other acts, including Blackpink's Blink's, thanks in part to Gaga's collaboration with the group on the song 'Sour Candy' as well as the Blinks' desire to see an 'AriPink' team-up. Responding to the Best Collaboration win, one Blink tweeted, "TALENT WON." Another viewer reworked Nicki Minaj's 'Side to Side' rap, stating, "GAGA AND ARIANA RUN POP," and one fan said, "GAGA AND ARIANA WON BEST COLLAB IM SCREAMINGGGGG THIS NIGHT IS A SERVE!!!!"

Accepting the award, Gaga referenced the song's message of "turning..tears into endless rainfall of diamonds," and sent a whole lot of love Grande's way. Donning a rather confusing feathery outfit that was truly Gaga in every way and that obscured most of her face, the singer thanked her collaborator, sharing how deeply they connected through the experience of recording 'Rain On Me'. She stated, "Girl, this is for us, we both have been through some s***," before adding she would "treasure the diamonds forever".

As fans celebrate the two singers winning the first award of the night, several wait patiently for the duo to take the stage and perform. Both Gaga and Grande are known to put on stellar performances, delivering flawless vocals and a host of theatrics and stunning stage sets. One fan shared, "I just really wanna see Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande performance frfr," while another predicted, "Lady Gaga is going to slay the night. I can feel it."
