MTV VMAs 2020: BTS's 'ON' bags Best Pop award, Army is proud of first Asian band that made history with win

Although MTV Video Music Awards is taking place with many restrictions in place, music fans are rooting for their favorite artists. The biggest annual music event is being conducted from various locations in New York City on August 30, taking into consideration the social distancing protocol. Actress, singer and television personality Keke Palmer is hosting the night, which is presented by a line-up of celebrities including  Drew Barrymore, Jaden Smith, Kelly Clarkson and a few more.  

This year’s VMAs is also honoring frontline medical workers "who kept everyone going with their impromptu and off-the-cuff performances”, as stated by MTV. While Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande led the award ceremony with nine nominations each, several top musicians racked nominations under various categories. 

One of the most anticipated awards — ‘Best Pop’ — was won by none other than the South Korean band boy BTS for their song 'ON'. The other nominations included Justin Bieber for ‘Intentions’, Halsey for ‘You Should Be Sad, Jonas Brothers for ‘What a Man Gotta Do’, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for ‘Rain on Me’ and Taylor Swift’ for ‘Lover’. 

Following their third win for the night, BTS is all the internet is talking about. The majority of fans are seen congratulating BTS on becoming the first Asian band ever to take home an award at the MTV Video Music Awards. One thrilled fan expressed, "BEST POP ?!?># ! DO YALL UNDERSTAND HOW BIG THAT IS?! FIRST ASIAN ACT TO WIN THIS AWARD CONGRATULATIONS @BTS_twt!!"



 

While another added, "So happy to see BTS win 'Best Pop' at the #MTVVMAs!! So proud of the guys, who seem to keep achieving despite already being at the top of the world."

BTS has so far won 'Best Group', 'Best K-Pop' and 'Best Pop'. One tweeted, "And that ladies and gentlemen is @BTS_twt! Not only they killed it with their #BTS_Dynamite  performance, but also already took 3 awards at #VMAs: Best Group, Best K-pop, Best pop (ON) Results for Best Choreography is yet to be found, but this is incredible."
