'Ms Marvel' Disney+ series could help bring 'Inhumans' back into the spotlight despite its failed stint at ABC TV
Marvel's Inhumans have more or less faded from the spotlight in recent years but Ms. Marvel, who is an Inhuman in the comics, could help change that with her new Disney+ series. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that a 'Ms. Marvel' series would be coming to Disney+ during the D23 Expo 2019 and confirmed the character would appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films as well.
The Inhumans were brought into the MCU as a replacement for mutants through the 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series and the show's Daisy 'Skye' Johnson/Quake (Chloe Bennet) is still the most prominent member of the race. They are introduced as an off-shoot of humanity who were experimented on by the Kree, the same aliens who serve as villains in 'Captain Marvel' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1'.
After their successful introduction in 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', Marvel decided to expand on the superhuman race's history with an 'Inhumans' series in collaboration with ABC and IMAX which failed so spectacularly the studio has pretty much written it out of MCU continuity.
The show was canceled after just one season, which is a shame considering the characters themselves have been beloved figures in the comics for decades. Considering how little we know about the plot of the series, there's a fair chance 'Ms. Marvel' could feature one or more of the members of the Inhuman Royal Family in supporting roles
The characters are in all honesty too good to be written out of the MCU permanently and fans would want them brought back, though preferably with better effects and scripting than the failed series. The cast of 'Inhumans' featured Anson Mount as Black Bolt, the silent king whose voice can destroy planets, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Black Bolt's wife and queen, Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, and Iwan Rheon as Black Bolt's brother Maximus the Mad.
'Ms. Marvel' follows the story of teenager Kamela Khan, a Pakistani-American from a religious family in New Jersey with polymorphous powers and who has the ability to stretch and change shape. The show doesn't have a release date yet but it will hopefully be available on Disney+ sometime in 2021.
