Opposites attract they say, but that hasn’t ever the case with the male characters we see on the hit sitcom ‘Modern Family’. For 10 seasons, the men and boys in the family expressed disapproval in one another’s action, making us wonder if they will get over their ego-driven personalities.

Amongst all, Phil (Ty Burrell) was the one only who came across as extremely grounded, going great lengths to ensure everyone around him is dancing with glee. But he did surprise us a couple of times with his irrationality, in an attempt to get back at the family’s patriarch Jay (Ed O' Niell).

However, Episode 7 of ‘Modern Family’, ‘The Last Thanksgiving’, which aired tonight, seems to have carved way for new possibilities as Jay’s soft spot for Phil is finally exposed.

All along, Jay was shown to be a cold-hearted power greedy CEO, whose inclination was restricted to playing golf, flying dummy planes and petting his beloved pooch Stella. Except for a few instances, his fatherly instincts never really kicked in, even at times when his children craved for it the most until Joe was born.

But, in the latest episode, Jay finally opens up to Phil about his overprotectiveness of his children Claire (Julie Bowen) and Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson). His confrontation also explains his unreasonable behavior towards Phil and Cam, including the intentional physical damages he caused to his children-in-law.

In ‘The Last Thanksgiving’, Phil indulges in self-analysis and realizes the uncanny resemblance he shares with Jay, being an overprotective father to his own offspring. Meanwhile, a few recaps on his treatment of Haley’s partner Dylan reflect the traits he has inherited from Jay unconsciously over the years.

As ‘Modern Family’ is in its final season, we are eager to know what the creators have on mind for the newfangled family tree, which has seen a few more addition of unusual kinships in the past few seasons.
