‘Boston Blue’ welcomes another beloved ‘Blue Bloods’ alum in its upcoming season
Another Reagan is set to grace 'Boston Blue.' Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan in the spin-off, is all set to welcome his brother Jamie Reagan to Boston. A CBS representative confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Will Estes will reprise his role as Jamie Reagan from 'Blue Bloods' in the sophomore installment of 'Boston Blue.' Estes played Jamie Reagan on all 14 seasons of the OG series before it was unceremoniously canceled in 2023. Wahlberg also confirmed the news on his social media. He uploaded a selfie with Estes and his other 'Boston Blue' classmates on his Instagram stories. "Welcome (back) to the family!" he wrote in the caption of the post uploaded on Friday. "Jamie Reagan! aka Will Estes!"
The CBS representative shared that Estes will be back for a guest appearance and has apparently already begun filming his scenes. The selfie by Wahlberg was uploaded on August 7 and featured the cast on what appears to be a restaurant set. Typically, the show shoots in Toronto, but the week of August 3, it was filming in Boston, where Estes appears to have joined the cast. A fan filmed Wahlberg and Estes shooting scenes in Boston on August 6. Wahlberg posted that video on Instagram as well, suggesting the team wants fans to know about Estes' arrival. Neither the show nor CBS has revealed which episode of the spin-off Jamie will appear in.

This is not the first time a 'Blue Bloods' alum has made an appearance in the spin-off. Previously, the spin-off has welcomed Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), followed by Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), and Joe Hill (Will Hochman). Marisa Ramirez portrayed Det. Maria Baez from 'Blue Bloods' in five episodes of the spin-off. Fans were ecstatic when Maria and Danny finally gave their relationship a chance in the series finale of 'Blue Bloods.' Their romance continued in the spin-off, though there were some bumps along the way, especially with the long-distance dynamic. In the season one finale, the couple took another massive step and decided to move in together. According to TV Insider, Ramirez is all set to appear in the next season.
As far as Jamie is concerned, the spin-off's first season confirmed that he and his wife welcomed a baby boy. The upcoming appearance will hopefully shed more light on his personal life and reveal the current status of the Reagans. 'Boston Blue' Season 1 finale also showed Danny considering a command position in the Boston Police Department. "What detective is more overdue for a promotion than Danny Reagan?" showrunner Brandon Sonnier said to EW about the proposal in front of Danny. "What does it look like for Danny Reagan to be in charge of people? What does it look like for Danny Reagan to have to answer in a different way to the hierarchy?" To find out the answers to these questions, fans will have to tune in to 'Boston Blue' when it returns on Friday, October 9, 10/9c only on CBS.
