Miley Cyrus to release rock album inspired by split from Liam Hemsworth, may put 'She Is Miley Cyrus' on hold
Miley Cyrus is going the Taylor Swift route and is set to sing some songs about her ex. Cyrus split from husband, and previously on-again-off-again boyfriend Liam Hemsworth less than a year after their wedding in December 2018 and a decade after they initially got together.
Cyrus faced immense backlash from many due to claims she cheated on Hemsworth, which she denied, stating "You can say I am a twerking, pot-smoking, foul-mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar." Over the next year, Cyrus moved on with singer Codey Simpson and Liam eventually followed with model Gabriella Brooks.
When asked how she felt about Hemsworth moving on, a source claimed a few days ago that she was happy he found love just as she had and had nothing but positivity to send his way. And it appears that her happiness will now spill over into a new album inspired by her split from Hemsworth.
As for the genre of the album, it's going to be some good old rock!
Cyrus will work with producer Andrew Watt on the upcoming album. Watt has previously worked on Ozzy Osbourne's album 'Ordinary Man'. And if Cyrus' previous work is anything to go by, this is going to be a match made in heaven.
Originally from a country background, thanks to her father Billy Ray Cyrus, Cyrus went on to do more pop-rock as her television personality 'Hannah Montana' before breaking into hip-hop with her fourth studio album 'Bangerz'.
She followed this with an experimental psychedelic pop-rock record called 'Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz', before returning to some more country-pop music. So her returning to rock isn't much of a surprise, but it is certainly exciting to see what she will do next since the singer is clearly big on changing her sound with each release.
It will be even more interesting to see just how Cyrus chooses to channel her marital experiences into the upcoming record. This isn't the first time Cyrus has sung about her break-up from Hemsworth, however.
Her 2019 song 'Slide Away', the first song released since their separation, made reference to their relationship with lyrics like "Move on we're not 17, I'm not who I used to be."
The new album reportedly includes a song featuring the lyrics "I'm better when I'm broken. I love you but I hate you" as well as a collaboration with the band Blink-182.
Cyrus allegedly had the music ready for release a while back as part of her 'She Is Miley Cyrus' album but decided to make a different album following her split with Hemsworth.
An insider has reportedly revealed, "There was a lot of soul-searching to be done and she re-evaluated everything in her life, including the songs she was preparing to release."
The insider added, "She got in the studio with Blink-182 at the end of last year and is really pleased with the result. The album is now sounding much more rock 'n' roll. It’s a far cry from her pop sound of years gone by."
'She Is Miley Cyrus' was originally scheduled for a 2019 release but was delayed for a variety of reasons including Cyrus' vocal cord surgery. The release was further delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and a new date for its release has not been set yet.
The album was set to feature collaborations with Ghostface Killah, RuPaul, Swae Lee, Cardi B and Shawn Mendes, indicating it would be something closer to her 'Bangerz' record. However, given the new direction Cyrus is going with her music, it's now uncertain whether 'She Is Miley Cyrus' will be released at all.
On the other hand, the singer has been known to drop two albums at the same time in the past, so it's quite possible we will still get the original record she was planning to put out in addition to her new Hemsworth-inspired piece.
