Michael Strahan: Early years

Born in Houston, Texas, Strahan spent most of his childhood in Germany. He is the youngest of six children of Louise and Gene Willie Strahan. When Strahan was only nine, his family moved to the Army base in Mannheim, West Germany. He played football for his school in Germany.

His parents recognized his talent early on. So Strahan's father sent him back to the US to live with his uncle, a former NFL player, so that he could play football while he finished high school. He was soon recruited to play football at Texas Southern University.

Prior to joining the ranks of the top broadcasters in the country, Strahan played 15 years in the NFL, was a seven-time Pro-Bowler, and one of only four players ever to lead the NFL in sacks for two seasons. He played defensive end for the New York Giants for 14 seasons. He announced his retirement in 2007.

In 2014, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and he is also in the New York Giants Ring of Honor and was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team. The Sun reported that he made about $60 million over the span of his career in the NFL. He earned a whopping $21 million during the 2002-2003 season, according to the outlet.

Life after NFL

Strahan is best-known as the co-anchor of ABC's 'Good Morning America' and co-host of entertainment talk show 'LIVE with Kelly and Michael'. But he began his career in the broadcast world after his retirement from NFL as a sports analyst.

Strahan got his big break when he was roped in as a replacement for Regis Philbin for the talk show 'Live!' that was renamed as 'Live! with Kelly and Michael'. Strahan and his co-star Kelly Rippa won the 2016 Daytime Emmy for "Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host" for their show. The same year, Strahan left the show to pursue the role of a full-time host on 'Good Morning America'. The morning show won the Daytime Emmy Award for the "Outstanding Morning Program" in 2017 and 2018.

He also began hosting the television game show 'The $100,000 Pyramid' in 2016. Strahan became a best-selling author after he released his book 'Wake Up Happy: The Dream Big, Win Big Guide to Transforming Your Life' in 2015.
