In an interesting turn of events, the filmmaker Michael Mann opened up about a scrapped film project that he initially had been wanting to do with iconic star Leonardo DiCaprio but this film project fell through and got scrapped.

In an interview with Deadline dated August 10, the filmmaker revealed an interesting fact about his shelved film. Giving a detailed insight into the shelved film based on the life of James Dean, Mann shared, “That was so weird about James Dean. It was a brilliant screenplay. And then it’s who the hell could play James Dean? And I found a chap who could play James Dean, but he was too young. It was Leo.”

Opening up on how Leonardo had done his look test for the part, Mann said, “We did a screen test that’s quite amazing. I think he must’ve been 19 at the time. And from one angle, he totally had it with him. I mean, it’s brilliance. He would turn his face in one direction and we see a vision of James Dean, and then he’d turn his face another direction and it’s no, that’s a young kid. I found the absolutely perfect act of the play, in about three years from that.”

When the publication asked Mann about young Leonardo who still had a boyish look and how the director couldn’t make this film with the 'Titanic' actor, Mann added, “He respectfully undid the James Dean bio for me.”

This news about Mann dishing out a scoop about the scrapped film with Leonardo in his interview was posted by Discussing Films on their official handle on August 11.

As soon as this was posted, fans started giving in their honest reactions on the same. Many of them were thankful to god that this film got scrapped, while some fans felt really amused by Mann who wanted Leonardo to grow older for this role.

“Funniest movie trivia I've read in a long time,” said a fan. “So basically he wanted Leo to grow faster,” a fan noted. “If only there were a way to calculate and predict the linear passage of time,” a fan added. “Damn. What is with DiCaprio and age discrepancies lmfao,” noted a fan.
