On Friday, September 24, Meghan Markle went for her second official joint engagement with her husband Prince Harry since their daughter Lilibet’s birth. The Duchess wore a monochromatic maroon suit while visiting Harlem's PS 123 Mahalia Jackson school. She completed her look with a $4,500 diamond ring by Birks, Princess Diana's $23,000 Cartier Tank watch, a $6,900 Cartier Love bracelet, a $3,000 Jennifer Meyer tennis bracelet, and her $350,000 worth diamond engagement ring.

While Meghan looked smart and classy in the suit, some on Twitter joked that the 40-year-old stole Michelle Obama’s style for the outing. Meghan’s outfit was very similar to the former first lady’s head-to-toe plum suit by Sergio Hudson, and which she donned for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ inauguration ceremony in January.

Michelle’s outfit was in purple color that consisted of a floor-length coat over a form-fitting knit turtleneck and wide-leg pants. She accessorized herself with a matching belt that featured a large gold buckle. While the 57-year-old’s version was more structured, Meghan’s look was relaxed. Reports said her reversible coat was made from double-faced cashmere that came with hand-finished invisible seams and a ribbed, cashmere-knit, detachable collar.

Several people took to Twitter to make fun of Meghan’s outfit. A user tweeted, “Imitation is her speciality, when she was trying to snare Harry she dressed as Diana all the time. This tells me that she wants the Obamas. Political ambition, 2023.” Another one wrote, “Channels? She tried to copy #MichelleObama and failed miserably. #MeghanMarkle should fire her racist bully stylist #JessicaMulroney Whoever let her leave looking like that must secretly hate her..her outfit was frankly horrible!!!!”

A critic said, “Yes, the discounted version she ordered on Aliexpress ;)).” Another one added: “I guess some people like sloppy seconds.” However, a person complimented her look and commented, “Madame Duchess maroon outfit and flowy hair is giving Michelle Obama at the Inauguration. #HarryAndMeghan.” The second one noted, “She's giving Michelle at inauguration and I am here for it #flawless.”

Meghan's Friday engagement came after she stepped out for the first time in over two years on September 23 to pay respects to 9/11 victims at Ground Zero along with Harry and also met New York lawmakers and UN officials.

The mother-of-two first wore a black coat, turtle neck, and wide-legged trousers despite the hot weather. Later in the day, when the Sussexes went to the offices of the World Health Organization to talk about vaccine equity, Meghan donned a warm-looking camel-colored coat above the turtle neck.

Laura, founder of Laura Kay London, commented, “Being her first public appearance in almost two years she may have gone low key with her outfit but her makeup is more dramatic than what we have seen in recent pictures and videos. Being her first public appearance in almost two years she may have gone low key with her outfit but her makeup is more dramatic than what we have seen in recent pictures and videos.”

She continued: “Her new ‘Hollywood’ brows are much more defined and they are filled in with powder to enhance their presence. It is all about the brow with this look. Her eyes are smudgy and she looks to have applied eye shadow all over the lid, blending it to create a creamy "intense eye". Perfect for commanding attention as you are drawn to her eyes naturally with the use of clever makeup application tricks.”

“In addition, for a softer finish she has used a highlighter to blend and intensify her facial features. The use of bronzer also tactfully emphasises her eyes and it is used to help contour her features without being overly out of place for the somber event. Her nude lip is a great choice as it catches the light by opting for a gloss finish which helps compliment her dewy complexion. The nude lip also goes perfectly with her smokey eyes and she has the balance just right,” Laura added.
