During Episode 4, Meghan talks about how she felt about the negative media coverage she repeatedly received in the UK. As her friends claimed that Meghan was “gloomy” and “disappearing inside of herself” due to the negative effects of contantly being scrutized, she revealed that she felt all of it would stop if she did not exist. “All of this will stop if I’m not here,” the ex-actress said in an emotional moment. Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, also chimed in, recalling the details of her daughter’s confession to her about her suicidal thoughts. Doria said, “I remember her telling me that she wanted to take her own life, and it broke my heart. Because I knew that it was bad, but to just constantly be picked at by these vultures, just picking away at her spirit that she would actually think of not wanting to be here. That’s not an easy one for a mom to hear.” She broke down into tears and added, “I can’t protect her.”
Harry claimed he was “devastated, angry, and ashamed” regarding how he dealt with the situation. He said, “I didn’t deal with it particularly well.” Adding, “I dealt with it as institutional Harry as opposed to husband Harry.” He continued to say, “And what took over my feelings was my royal role. I had been trained to worry more about what are people going to think if we don’t go to this event? We’re gonna be late.” He expressed his regret about not paying attention to Meghan’s distress and said, “And looking back right now, I hate myself for it.” Meghan also alleged that she was not allowed to seek help. According to the pair, the royal family knew how bad it was but wanted Meghan to deal with it like the rest of them.
Netflix dropped the second installment of 'Harry & Meghan' on Wednesday, December 15.
