Meghan Markle mocked by trolls over ill-fitting red dress at museum gala appearance
Meghan Markle was mocked on social media after she wore a red dress by Carolina Herrera to honor veterans ahead of Veterans Day at the Intrepid Museum in New York City. Meghan Markle, 40, attended the 2021 Salute to Freedom Gala, a special event honoring veterans, on Wednesday, November 10. The Duchess of Sussex wore a red sleeveless dress by Herrera as she walked the red carpet with her husband, 37-year-old Harry, the Duke of Sussex.
Meghan did not leave her hair open, which is a signature look for her sister-in-law Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge. Instead, she opted to keep her long hair tightly secured in a high bun and added red heels to go with the high-slit dress. Meanwhile, Harry wore a tuxedo with four medals and the cross for Knight Commander of Royal Victorian Order around his neck. He completed the look with black shoes as he smiled and posed for cameras, holding his wife's hand. Both had red poppy pins attached to their respective outfits, which is a symbol used since 1921 to commemorate military members who have died in wars, HollywoodLife reported.

Harry and Meghan were making their way down the red carpet when one reporter asked the latter if she was proud of her husband's military background. “I’m always proud of him,” she said, as quoted by People.
The former royals were at the event to present the inaugural Intrepid Valor Awards to five service members, veterans, and military families living with the invisible wounds of war. According to HollywoodLife, the gala also raised money for Intrepid’s educational program for students and programs to support veterans.
It's worth noting that the Intrepid Museum’s Salute to Freedom gala recognizes the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who serve in defense of our nation. Susan Marenoff-Zausner, president of the Intrepid Museum, shared her joy about Prince Harry’s involvement at this year’s festivities prior to the event. “We are so grateful to Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex for honoring and amplifying the stories of these heroes and helping to raise awareness for mental health support for our men and women in uniform,” she said in a press release.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex was mocked on social media for her bright-red ensemble. "@HouseofHerrera What. Were. You. Thinking. Couldn’t you have lent #MeghanMarkle a dress that flattered her new shape?" one tweeted. "Does Meghan Markle from Mexit think she is going to a Gala Dinner? Did someone forget to whisper in her ear that it was a military awards evening? She is too fat for the dress and it doesn’t fit her body shape. Harry, please buy your wife a full-length mirror," a comment read.
"Are those pasties on her dress. What is with the nipples? Back fat, purple eye shadow, fake tan. Youtube live stream exposed Meghan Markle brought her Netflix camera guy. This was a self-promotional event. More disingenuous Netflix asked the recipient to talk about what Haz & Rachel," someone else added. "Ill fitted dress as always. Also, why is UK citizen honoring American veterans? Didn't they get anyone American?? Such a shame," another chimed in.
