Samantha who? Meghan Markle DENIES lying to Oprah about being an ‘only child’, says it's ‘subjective’
In the midst of a legal dispute with her half-sister Samantha, Meghan Markle has disputed that she lied during her shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey about being raised as an 'only child.' After Meghan's half-sister, Samantha, accused her of lying in a pending defamation case, Markle's attorneys said that she had every right to tell Oprah that she was raised as an ‘only child.’ In response to Samantha's allegations that the Duchess of Sussex lied to Winfrey during her and Prince Harry's 2021 tell-all interview, a new document was submitted by Meghan's legal team on Monday, July 25.
The new filing written on behalf of Meghan reads: "This perception is inherently unfalsifiable. It is hard to imagine a more personal and subjective feeling than how one views their own childhood.” The document also adds that Samantha totally misses the context in which Meghan claimed she was raised as an 'only child.' The document reads, "Meghan's response to that question that she 'grew up as an only child' was obviously not meant to be a statement of objective fact that she had no genetic siblings or half-siblings. Rather, it was a textbook example of a subjective statement about how a person feels about her childhood."

Earlier, Meghan, who was expecting her second child at the time, talked about her childhood for a part of the interview with Winfrey. She said, "I grew up as an only child, which everyone who grew up around me knows. I wished I had siblings. I would've loved to have had siblings. That's why I'm so excited to be pregnant so that Archie has someone." In a July 8 amendment to Samantha's original complaint, which was filed in Florida in March, she said she could prove that statement was false. The filing reads, "The Duchess did grow up with two half-siblings who were involved in the Duchess' life as she was growing up. By publishing these false facts, she was making it apparent that her older sister was an opportunist of the worst kind. Her vendetta caused people who watched Oprah and who adore the Duchess to have and display hatred toward Mrs. Markle."
Meanwhile, according to the Daily Mail, Samantha also filed a defamation claim against Meghan in the same case regarding remarks made about her in the book ‘Finding Freedom,’ which was written about the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry. Although royal analysts Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote it, the Duchess of Sussex's attorneys claims Meghan gave permission to a friend to contact the authors even though she had previously denied any involvement. Previously, a lawyer acting on behalf of Meghan branded the lawsuit ‘baseless and absurd’ adding they would give it ‘the minimum attention necessary.'
