MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been advised to lock down their California mansion due to reports of a mountain lion sighting nearby. The dangerous predator was seen on outdoor security footage prowling around the elite celebrity community of Montecito, where other A-list celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Ariana Grande, and Brad Pitt also live. The pair has been advised to safeguard their $14.6 million mansion. According to the authorities, the flock of chickens the former full-time royals have adopted could attract the lion to approach their expansive home, and they have been made aware of this hazard.

Earlier, a mountain lion was located five miles away from the homeowner's property on CCTV footage that showed it strolling down their driveway. According to experts, it's probable that the lion was pushed from the hills by California's catastrophic drought and was now on a scavenger hunt for food and water. The Montecito Association's executive director, Sharon Byrne, said, "The fact we have security footage shows though that residents are taking this seriously as it was shot by a camera which is what we've been urging residents to install. We want all locals to secure their homes and secure their chicken coops and whatever other animals they may have.”

"Chickens can be a fast, easy source of food for hunting animals so they have to be safe and secure. We also urge residents to secure their garbage so animals can go rummaging around for scraps, to have night lighting, alarms, cameras, and so on. Mountain lions are solitary creatures and ultimately, they don't want to be around people so we're hoping this one moves on by itself,” Sharon added.

Meanwhile, according to The Sun, during the coronavirus pandemic, Harry, 37, and Meghan, 41, bought rescue chickens. They also have two rescue dogs, which the lion would view as potential prey. The new CCTV footage, which was captured on July 23, has alarmed locals who fear that the beast might harm their kids or pets. The homeowner only recently installed the CCTV camera after being asked to do so by the local authorities.

One local resident told The Sun that although there are often sightings of coyotes, bears, and deer in the area, mountain lion sightings are uncommon. The resident said, “We’re in a drought so the animals are thirsty but also there have been fires and a mudslide in recent years which seems to have brought down the bigger animals. People in the area feel safe during the day but they’re taking precautions during the night. I would be very scared if I came across that mountain lion in person rather than on video." Meanwhile, in 2004, a 35-year-old man was killed by a mountain lion at Whiting Ranch Regional Park in Orange County, marking the last time a mountain lion in California was responsible for a human fatality.
