Last year, former royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle bought a nine-bedroom and sixteen bathroom mansion in Montecito, California with a $9.6 million mortgage. Just nine months after the couple bought the mansion for $13.9 million (£10 million), reports indicate that the home has now tripled in value.

The Daily Mail reported that the property market in the neighborhood is 'crazy' as per a local estate agent resulting in the couple's mansion possibly being worth around $41.7 million (£30 million) now. Besides the whopping number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the home also features a cinema, gym, spa, guesthouse, pool, and tennis court.

Experts speak on the property

Estate agent Randy Solakian, who knows the home well as he had represented the couple who built it, told The Times, "It would have been really ugly if they'd paid $40 million (£30 million) for it, which is what it's probably worth, but I would say they got a bargain." Sandy Stahl, an agent with Sotheby's International Realty, said that the couple made a "smart move". She also claimed that the home would now sell for "at least double" of what they had paid, adding that a home next to the couple was on the market for $21 million but was not "nearly as nice." The hype in the Montecito property market is not due to the couple's arrival though, Stahl said.

While the Duke of Sussex said that his family had "literally cut" him off financially during the couple's infamous CBS Primetime special interview with Oprah Winfrey, it seems that the couple may be more than fine when it comes to cash. Last year, they signed deals with Netflix and Spotify, which is estimated to be worth millions. Not to mention that Harry, 36, along with his brother William, each inherited $16 million from their late mother, Princess Diana. "I've got what my mum left me and, without that, we would not have been able to do this. I think she saw it coming. And I certainly felt her presence throughout the whole process," said Harry told Oprah. The Duchess added that the move to leave the royal family was "greater than any fairytale you've ever read" adding that she and her husband wanted to "live authentically" and get "down to basics".

While the interview may have caused quite a stir when it came to the British audience, the couple seems to be sitting on a gold mine with their mansion. But, as per Forbes, the couples' estimated net worth is "not that much" compared to the other royals. While the Queen has a net worth of $500 million as per Forbes back in 2019, the Duke and Duchess's net worth which would include their equity from their Montecito home is "roughy" only $10 million as of 2021.
