'Charm City Kings': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Will Smith-produced drama on HBO Max

'Charm City Kings' is all set to premiere on HBO Max. The rights to the movie, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020 where it won the US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast, was acquired by HBO Max from Sony Pictures Entertainment back in May. The drama was earlier scheduled for release in the spring of 2020 by Sony Pictures Classics but the date was later shifted to August 14. Skipping the theatrical release, the movie will now premiere on HBO Max.

Announcing the news, HBO Max, from its official handle, tweeted, "Every Sunday in the summer, you either show up or show out. How far would you go to chase your dreams? @CharmCityKings is streaming October 8 on HBO Max. @HBOMaxImpact"

'Charm City Kings' will start streaming from Thursday, October 8, 2020, on HBO Max.

Plot

According to IMDb, the film's official synopsis reads, "Fourteen-year-old Mouse desperately wants to join the Midnight Clique, an infamous group of Baltimore dirt-bike riders who rule the summertime streets."

Grammy-nominated rapper Meek Mill is making his acting debut with 'Charm City Kings'. He has also contributed music for films such as 'Bright' (2017), 'Spring Breakers' (2012) and 'Creed' (2015).

Teyonah Parris as Terri

Teyonah Parris is known for her role as Dawn Chambers in the critically-acclaimed television drama 'Mad Men' (2012–15) and for starring in Spike Lee's satirical drama 'Chi-Raq'. She's also been seen in Barry Jenkins' 'If Beale Street Could Talk' (2018), 'Dear White People' (2014) and the Fox TV show 'Empire'.

The film also stars William Catlett as Detective Rivers who is known for performances in films such as '84' (2018), 'Love Is' (2018) and 'Malcolm' (2019). Child actor Donielle Tremaine Hansley makes his acting debut with 'Charm City Kings' playing Lamont, while Kezii Curtis, who has previously been in films like 'Dolemite Is My Name' (2019) and 'Insecure' (2016), will be seen portraying the role of Sweartagawd.

Director/writer

'Charm City Kings' has been directed by Angel Manuel Soto, a newcomer director. The screenplay of the film has been written by Sherman Payne, while the story has been penned by Kirk Sullivan, Chris Boyd and 'Moonlight' director Barry Jenkins. It's based on the 2013 documentary film '12 O'Clock Boys' by Lofty Nathan. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith serve as the executive producers.
