'Mayans MC' Season 2 Episode 3 'Camazotz': Alvarez and Mini share a heartwarming moment with some much-needed advice
Spoilers ahead for Season 2 Episode 3 of 'Mayans MC' titled 'Camazotz'
The third episode 'Camazotz' of season two of 'Mayans MC' features a little nug of advice — one that you need to save in a little corner at the back of your mind, taking it out time and again to remind yourself of who you truly are.
Melony Ochoa's Mini is one of the closest people to Carla Baratta's Adelita and they share a heartwarming bond. At the beginning of the episode, Mini hears moaning and thumping from the other room.
Scared that her Adelita might be in trouble, she gets out of bed and quite fearlessly approaches the room but ends up walking in on a customer. When he sees her, he "said something horrible" (as Adelita later points out).
Adelita comes in at this moment and tells him to apologize to Mini for his choice of words, but not before they have already done their damage.
Later in her room, Mini opens up to Adelita about her insecurities — how she wishes to be pretty and beautiful like her Adelita. This scene is one that deeply resonates with young men and women.
We have spent so much of our time worrying about our looks and being held back by scars and what others think of our scars that we rarely take the time out to appreciate what we have — to truly feel confident despite all our shortcomings.
Mini's revelation shuts Adelita up — what is she to say to this child to make this better?
Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) then pays her a visit on the instructions of Miguel Galindo (Danny Pino) to check if everything with her is fine. There, he meets a dejected Mini. He asks her if he can show her something, then goes on to elucidate on some of his many scars beginning with the one on his right leg.
"I have one on the other leg. Kinda matches. Deep one on my shoulder. Two bullet holes in the back. On my belly? One that looks like a zipper. That's just a few," he says.
"These marks are a reminder of who we are. We're survivors. We're strong. Brave. You're not a mouse, Mini," he tells her. "You're a lion. That's why people turn away from you. From me. From Adelita. Power intimidates them. They see us and know we will never retreat. Don't hide that. Own who you are. All of it. There's nothing more beautiful than that."
We wish we had some knowledge of this growing up — it would have saved us a lot of time wasted fretting about things that in hindsight don't seem important. On days when you feel like the world is out there to just defeat you, remember what Alvarez said.
