LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mariah Carey is celebrating another year around the sun. The 'Butterfly' hitmaker marked her 54th birthday by jumping into the ocean on Monday, March 27. The five-time Grammy Award winner took to social media on her special day to prove that she's forever young by literally jumping off her luxury yacht.

The mother of two shared a short clip in which she rocked a hot pink wetsuit and wore her hair in a ponytail as she jumped into the clear waters without hesitation. Carey popped up on the surface and then plunged back in for a quick dive as she enjoyed the jeweled waters.

'Celebratory splash'

The songstress shared the video on her Instagram account with the caption, "Celebratory splash at 3:27 on 3.27!" alongside butterfly, ocean wave, and champagne bottle emoticons. It's safe to say that Mariah wasn't celebrating alone. Her choreographer boyfriend Bryan Tanaka also paid tribute to the singer on her special day. "This is one of my favorite pictures. Ever. Happy Anniversary my Beautiful Queen. 3/27," Bryan wrote alongside a monochrome photo of the two smiling while resting their heads on each other.

A host of celebrities such as Debbie Allen and Dinah Jane from Fifth Harmony showered Carey with love and best wishes, which the singer reposted on her Instagram stories. Other well-wishers included Kris Jenner, Jennifer Hudson, and Kerry Washington. Moreover, fans went wild in the comments section of her birthday post. “The grip on those sunglasses,” one joked. “When bestie is ONE WITH THE WATER she is happier than ever. It’s an unimaginable feeling of freedom. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to THE GOAT,” another added. “Just missing those Gucci heels dahling,” someone else gushed. "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY QUEEN OF EVERYTHING," wrote another.

'I have anniversaries, not birthdays'

Carey, who is a mother to 11-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, with ex Nick Cannon, likes to keep her life ageless, famously referring to her birthdays as "anniversaries." “I don’t count years...I rebuke them,” Carey said in a 2014 interview with Out Magazine. “I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling,’ she added.

The 'Without You' hitmaker explained, “As a kid, I literally made this pact. There had been some sort of argument [between] my mom and the man she was dating at the time, and somehow I became a part of it — I was around 8 or 9 years old, and I said, ‘I’m never going to forget how it feels to be a kid, and you can’t be seen or heard.’ It’s as though your opinion doesn’t mean anything or your feelings are not real.” She said she stays "eternally 12" by celebrating the anniversary of her 12th birthday again and again.

The singer doubled down on brushing off her age when she refused a FaceApp challenge, in which users can look at younger versions of themselves. "FaceApp is not something I acknowledge,” she tweeted in July 2019, attaching an iconic meme of herself from a past interview.
