Who is Mare Sheehan?

Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) is a small-town Pennsylvania detective who is regarded as a hero in Easttown because of her heroics in a basketball game that took place when she was in college. She is also known as Lady Hawk from her days as a high school basketball star. Everyone in the town knows her and respects her for what she did that day. However, her life has never been the same after the basketball game. Mare is battling trauma and grief while messily trying to do well for her family. Mare is also a grandmother who is raising her four-year-old grandson after her son killed himself.

It is only in nabbing creeps and settling petty household disputes that Mare can recapture a glimmer of the person she once was: The hero who saved the town. But little does she know that her life is about to go for a spin because of a gruesome murder case.

A brutal murder case makes her life miserable

A year before the show opens, a young woman named Katie Bailey disappeared. While Mare complains that she has done all that she could and the drug-addicted victim is likely dead in a river somewhere, that victim’s mother — one of Mare’s old friends and basketball teammates — is still trying to find some answer. She says the police are doing nothing and asks the people to help her.

However, at the end of Episode 1, Mare gets the information about a body that has been found at a local teen hangout spot. Her world is jolted by the news and what happened next is something extraordinary. She now has two victims to avenge and a case that involves friends, family and life-long frenemies. It will be interesting to see how she manages to catch the killer and become the town’s hero once again. However, it won’t be easy for her to solve the case because the killer might come for her in order to save themselves. Also, the case will also give some flashbacks about Mare's life, which means, the case will have some kind of connection to her life.
