Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet is teaming up with HBO to produce a series titled ‘Mare of Easttown’. This will be Winslet’s first television appearance in more than 10 years. In 2011, she played the titular character in the series ‘Mildred Pierce’ and went on to win the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie accolade at the Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes.

The upcoming series follows the journey of a detective named Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet), who investigates a small-town Pennsylvania detective who investigates a local murder as life crumbles around her. The series will also examine how past tragedies can define our present.

This is Kate Winslet’s third collaboration with HBO after ‘Extras’ (2005) and ‘Mildred Pierce’ (2011). Here’s everything you need to know about the crime-drama series.

Release date

‘Mare of Easttown’ will premiere exclusively on HBO on Sunday, April 18. The series will also be available from streaming on HBO Max. 

Air time and how to live stream

The seven-part limited series debut Sunday, April 18, at 10 pm ET. Viewers can subscribe to HBO Max by downloading the app from Google Play and App Store. On the other hand, the subscription of HBO Max can also be taken with the help of cable and broadband partners like AT&T, DIRECTV, AT&T U-Verse, Spectrum, and Verizon Fios. HBO Max costs $14.99 per month. 

Cast

Kate Winslet

Winslet is one of the greatest actors of all time and has given many award-winning performances throughout her career. From 'Titanic' to 'Sense and Sensibility', the actress has worked in more than 45 movies in her illustrious career. She was nominated in the Best Actor (Female) category at the Academy Awards for both movies.

However, she had to wait for 13 long years to get her hands on the golden statuette. She won the Best Actor (Female) trophy for her role in the movie, ‘The Reader’. Apart from the aforementioned titles, Winslet has appeared in movies such as ‘Iris’, ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’, ‘Contagion’, ‘Labor Day’, ‘Triple 9’ and ‘Ammonite’.

Guy Pearce

Pearce has been a part of the industry since 1986 and has featured on various high-end projects. The actor gained prominence after portraying the character of Ed Exley in ‘LA Confidential’ and was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The actor also starred alongside Winslet in the series ‘Mildred Pierce’ and won the Best Actor accolade in the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.

According to the synopsis, here’s what viewers can expect from the series: “The series tells the story of Mare Sheehan (Winslet), a small-town Pennsylvania detective who investigates a local murder as life crumbles around her. The show is an exploration into the dark side of a close community and an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present.” 

Creators

The show is created and written by Brad Ingelsby. Craig Zobel will don the director’s hat for all the episodes. Meanwhile, Winslet, Ingelsby, Gavin O’Connor, Paul Lee, Mark Roybal and Gordon Gray will serve as executive producers.

Trailer

The trailer sees Mare's life turned upside-down after a gruesome murder takes place in her area. The detective does everything to get to the killer and in the process, gets to know the harsh truth about life.
