BTS becomes the first artist to win ‘Artist Of The Year’ five times (2016-2020) in Mnet Asian Music Awards history! With the power of music, MAMA connected fans around the world and opened the gate to 'NEW-TOPIA' — a new virtual world where fans returned to make 'contact'. Deemed as Asia’s biggest music award show, the star-studded event began on Sunday, December 6 at 6 pm KST and a number of powerhouse K-pop groups including BTS, NCT and Stray Kids stole hearts.

Did you know MAMA began in 1999 under the name of 'Mnet Music Video Daesang'? It was renamed as 'Mnet KM Music Video Festival' in 2004 and as the 'Mnet KM Music Festival' in 2006. Finally, in 2009, it got its current name, marking a new beginning in the world of Asian music. Since 2010, MAMA has been held in Macau, Singapore and Hong Kong. In 2017, MAMA was held in Vietnam, Japan, and Hong Kong. Next year, in 2018, MAMA was held in three different locations in Asia in a span of a week – Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong! Due to Covid-19 restrictions, it went virtual this year.

The stellar list of performers included the likes of BTS, NCT, SEVENTEEN, ENHYPEN, MONSTA X, MAMAMOO, TWICE, TXT, BoA, Taemin, Jessi and Hwa Sa, TREASURE, GOT7, and IZ*ONE. IU and her collaboration with BTS member Suga on 'Eight' grabbed the Best Collab of the year, Hwasa won Best Dance Performance - Solo for 'Maria' and TWICE won the most popular artist. Of course, BTS scored the top two trophies of Song of the Year and Artist of the Year.
