Makenzie Moss says Walton Goggins gave 'incredible pearls of acting wisdom' on 'The Unicorn' sets
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Makenzie Moss plays the role of a teenage daughter, Natalie, in the CBS single-camera comedy titled 'The Unicorn.' The series revolves around Walton Goggins, who plays a single-father Wade Felton, trying to get back into the dating scene after the loss of his wife.
The 13-year-old actress began her acting stint with a 'Mott's for Tots' commercial at age four. From there, she went on to do a series of national commercials followed by her feature film debut in 'Do You Believe' opposite Mira Sorvino and a string of roles in films like 'Steve Jobs', 'God Bless the Broken Road' and 'Off the Menu.' After starring in series like 'CSI', 'About a Boy' and 'Blunt Talk', she is all set to play the role of the younger daughter in the forthcoming comedy show.
In an exclusive interview with MEA World Wide (MEAWW), Makenzie speaks of her character and her experience of working with Goggins. "My character is a jock who specifically has a passion for soccer. She has this sarcasm and common sense that makes her wise beyond her years but also has a little bit of a chip on her shoulder."
Tracing the similarities of her personality with the character she portrays, Makenzie revealed, "I think that Natalie and I share the same sense of humor as well as a little bit of sassiness." But the two are different too. "I’m definitely not a jock like she is and we have a different sense of style," she added.
Walton is a pleasure to work with, the actress confessed, adding, "He is not only helpful but very generous. He always makes me feel very comfortable and gives me incredible pearls of acting wisdom." The series also stars Ruby Jay as Grace, who plays her elder sister in the show. Spelling out how "close" their bond is, Makenzie said, "Ruby and I get along really well. I think of her as a sister. Even though we hang out five days a week when we’re filming, we still love hanging out offset as we have sleepovers, trips to Knotts Berry Farm and other fun events."
From 'After Life' to 'Perfect Harmony,' many shows are based on a similar theme of a man coping with his life after the loss of his wife. What's different for viewers when they watch 'The Unicorn'? Reflecting on the theme of the show, Makenzie added, "The support that comes from both his friends and from his daughters is what separates this concept from some of the other similar themed shows. In addition, there is a perfect balance of heart and comedy. On top of it, the cast is hilarious and really elevates the very funny material."
The series seems to be peppered with lighthearted moments between a father and his daughters. However, they are far from real! In a scene, Natalie and Grace can be seen looking at their father's dating app and judging his choices. Can Makenzie imagine a scenario like that in real life and what would she do if put in one? Quipping on the scene, she said, "No, I can never imagine a scenario like that. That would be hard for me to imagine. Honestly, I have no idea what I would do if my dad was dating… oh my Gawd, no!"
The actress also starred in a sci-fi thriller called 'Let Us In' alongside actors like Sadie Stanley, Kenzie Ziegler, and Siena Agudong. "It was a pleasure to work with them," she said, adding, "Look out for the movie in 2020!"
