'Mpenzi' Madonna dances with Samburu warriors in traditional ritual during Malawi vacation with children
MALAWI, EAST AFRICA: After starting th new year on a high note, Madonna is currently enjoying an adventurous vacation with her kids in Malawi. The "Material Girl" singer, 64, recently offered an insight into her time in the East African country as she engaged in traditional rituals with Samburu warriors.
The pop icon showed off her trip on Monday, January 8 as she took to her Instagram Stories to share a slew ofvideo clips and photographs of herself immersed in the country's way of life. The collection captured Madonna adorning skin-tight trousers with boots and a patterned shirt, which she layered with a rain jacket and a huge turquoise shawl. She accessorized her look with a beige cowgirl-style hat, a heavily embellished statement coin necklace, and dazzling nail extensions. For the traditional day, Madonna opted for a make-up-free look. She even branded herself 'Mpenzi', which means 'lover' in Swahili, in one heavily-filtered snap of herself.

The ‘Papa Don’t Preach’ hit-maker also celebrated her New Year in Malawi with her 17-year-old son David, 16-year-old daughter Mercy, and 10-year-old twins Stelle and Estere. The three kids were all born in Malawi and later adopted by the Superstar singer. Besides the three, Madonna is also a proud mother to Rocco, 22, from her past marriage to Guy Ritchie, and 26-year-old Lourdes Leon who she shares with Carlos Leon.
Welcoming 2023, Madonna celebrated her unimaginable life in an emotional Instagram post. 'Dancing Into 2023. “When you were a little girl Madame ……….. Was this the woman you dreamed of becoming??“ This is a quote from one of my favorite books- The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells.’ She wrote. 'The answer is I could never have imagined my life would be so full. That I would be able to make a living being an artist. That I could be the mother I never had. That my children would bring me so much joy!! More importantly that I would be in a position to be able to help others less fortunate than [sic] myself.'
On December 30, the singer also shared a fun Instagram reel, which captured her spending time in Africa and supporting her charity, Raising Malawi. She co-founded the non-profit organization in 2006. According to the charity's mission statement, Raising Malawi is dedicated to helping with the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi's one million orphans, primarily through health and education programming. In 2008, she released the documentary I Am Because We Are, a film that documented the lives of orphans in Malawi where around 500,000 children have lost their parents to HIV and AIDS.
