'Madam Secretary' Season 6: The series finale sees an emotional outpouring from fans as they struggle to let go of Tea Leoni as president

After six long years of surprising us with emotions and wowing us with the concept of an America where one woman's road to being president changes lives all over, CBS' 'Madam Secretary' has finally wrapped.

The titular secretary-turned-Madam President, Elizabeth McCord, gave us enormous expectations from the first female US president through Tea Leoni's exceptional portrayal of a character that tackled more than just biased politics.

And as she rode off to the sunset after a failed impeachment and her daughter's extravagant wedding, fans are having a hard time coping with not being able to see her journey on the show anymore.

As Elizabeth, aka Liz, or more affectionately, Bess, kissed her phenomenal husband — the wonderful First Gentleman Henry McCord (Tim Daly) one final time as the pair got on a train and embarked on a nationwide tour to campaign, heartbroken, but proud fans took to Twitter to express their sadness and gratitude in equal parts.

"THANK YOU for 6 years filled with thought-provoking, gut-wrenching, tears and laughter!" wrote one fan on Twitter, adding: "A TEAM of the highest quality! A show that will be greatly missed! Fortunately, I've taped the series!!!"

Another emotional fan shared: "A show that has meant so much to me over the past few years is over. #MadamSecretary is one of the things that inspired me to minor in political science and it’s the show that made me more interested in real-life politics. Elizabeth McCord is a role model for me and many others."

Another fan called the final scene their least favorite one so far, but the reason behind was the wholesome thing about their sentiments.

"My least favorite scene of the season, but only because there's no next week or next month. I didn't come to the show until 4 years ago and it boggles my mind that more folks aren't upset with the shortened final season."

Most fans, however, were desperately calling for a renewal in the hopes of a Season 7 focusing purely on Liz's run as the president. Here's hoping that turns into a reality soon.
