MTV VMAs 2020: Machine Gun Kelly bags Best Alternative Video for 'Bloody Valentine', but Twenty One Pilot fans unhappy

“Genres don’t matter no more, don’t let them box you in.”

Machine Gun Kelly bagged his first MTV VMA in the Best Alternative Video category for his single 'Bloody Valentine'. 

Other nominees in the category included The 1975 ('If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)), All Time Low ('Some Kind of Disaster'), Lana Del Rey ('Doin' Time'), FINNEAS ('Let's Fall in Love for the Night') and Twenty-one pilots ('Level of Concern').

Megan Fox fans were awestruck when the video was released back on May 1, 2020. In the video of the song Fox can be seen playing MGK's lover 'who gets a kick' out of torturing him. 

“This is crazy, oh my god,” Machine Gun Kelly said in excitement after winning the award. “This is a big one dude, this is for the scene right here,” he continued. “Genres don’t matter no more, don’t let them box you in.” He said that he was going to spray paint the award pink and showcase it in the coffee shop he just opened in his hometown of Cleveland. 'Bloody Valentine' is a track from MGK’s forthcoming pop-punk album, 'Tickets To My Downfall'.

As soon as the announcement was made people started lauding the 30-year old singer, with one user called him a king and saying, "Imagine winning an MTV moon man and then getting on a plane right after to go home and kiss your girlfriend Megan fox. Machine gun kelly really is the KING of 2020. Another fan said, "Yeah I’m a fan of tøp, Lana and MGK and this is so awesome for him and I’m so happy for MGK he deserves it so much," and "Machine Gun Kelly won Best Alternative AND gave us the best performance of the night. We had to stan"

While some Twenty One Pilots fans were disappointed, one user commented, "I was really suprised the boys didnt win cuz clikkies go so hard but fr mgk stans were dedicating full days to just vote for him. Like he hasnt won a VMA before and he was so excited everyone really did put their all into it. I adore tøp but im so happy mgk won he was SO excited" and another one said, "this award show is rigged. the numbers shown us that the pilots were winning. they changed the winner to machine gun kelly because tyler & josh probably couldn’t make it out to new york because of how busy tyler is with working. they knew damn well this win belonged to the boys."
