Mac Miller 'Circles': Posthumous album has fans crying and smiling as joy spills over
The late great rapper Mac Miller may have died in September 2018, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of many fans. News broke earlier this month that the hip-hop star's estate would be releasing his posthumous album 'Circles', which was originally conceptualized as a companion piece to his 2018 album 'Swimming'.
The family of Malcolm McCormick aka Mac Miller posted on his social media account that Mac had always envisioned the two albums together as a yin-yang kind of thing — "Two different styles complementing each other, completing a circle — Swimming in Circles was the concept." Jon Brion, who was the producer on 'Swimming' took it upon himself to complete production duties on the new album, based on the numerous conversations he had with Miller in the past regarding the vision and direction for 'Circles'.
To further cement the good news we received on 'Circles', we were also treated to a music video of the first single off Mac Miller's new album — the appropriately titled 'Good News'. It was dropped last week and served as a great preview to this posthumous album release.
And now that the new 'Circles' album just dropped on January 17, Mac Miller's fans are loving every bittersweet second of it!
They've taken to social media in droves to share their love, sadness, support, gratitude and good vibes to the dearly departed rapper and his family for this late, great, unexpected present.
Many of them had been waiting all week for the new album to drop, while others tweeted that they were planning to exclusively stream the brand new hip-hop tracks they were being blessed with this weekend. Others were posting fan-made art of the new album's tracklisting.
Many fans were awestruck at how wonderful the new 'Circles' album sounded. Social media was abuzz with comments such as: "This is truly beautiful", "F***ing perfect" and "Finally yass! This sounds magical!!"
"With everything that has went on this week I am truly happy this album came out tonight. I know God has a plan and everything happens for a reason. #macmiller #swimmingcircles #circles, (sic)" said a thankful follower.
"Beautiful. Haven’t heard a ton of Jon Brion other than Eternal Sunshine and this is tied together beautifully," said another user on Instagram, commending the producer Jon Brion's labor of love on the album.
"Dude I’ve been looking forward to this all day and I am sad but happy rn 🥺" said a die-hard Mac fan who was struggling to keep it together. "So bloody sad... deep and shows his pure talent" read another comment.
"RIP - Tissue box ready" read a tearful comment. Most people were still struggling to digest the tragic loss of the rapper two years since his death. "Just started listening now and it’s already heartbreaking!" one fan posted.
And the reactions kept on pouring in while the album was being streamed by all his fans in one last, massive, euphoric listening party. "Blue world made me cry cuz is SO DAMN GOOD!" said one fan and another added, "Hand Me Downs makes me feel like I’m floating on a cloud, the guitar is perfect."
Things truly have come a full circle since this 'Circles' album is finally giving Mac's fans the ultimate closure they craved after the rapper's untimely death. This new album is a gem that will be treasured as his and his family's final gift to us all.
