'MacGyver' Season 5 Episode 1: Fans compare Zurich Grand hotel to The Continental from 'John Wick'

Spoilers for 'MacGyver' Season 5 Episode 1 'Resort + Desi + Riley + Window Cleaner + Witness'

'MacGyver' Season 5 had all the makings of a typical action spy thriller as episode 1 titled, 'Resort + Desi + Riley + Window Cleaner + Witness' was anything but explosive. The episode saw Desi and Riley tasked to infiltrate the Zurich Grand Hotel in Switzerland to acquire Paula, a woman with vital information on Codex. Paula is holed up at the Zurich Grand and in order to get access, Mac and Taylor use one of the regulars of the hotel, Vincent (guest-starring Jesse T Usher). 

One of the highlights of the episode was how the hotel was reminiscent of 'The Continental', the famed hotel in the 'John Wick' trilogy. Just like the concierge Charon (Lance Reddick), the episode also sees a similar concierge in Igor (Jean Brassard) who assists the ladies, Desi and Riley just the way Charon would. There were no weapons allowed, and they had code words too. "Dinner" meant first-aid, and SPA meant "medical services)

'MacGyver' fans were quick to take notice of the hotel's uncanny resemblance to The Continental which also has a series in development.  "Ahhhh, what happened to Riley?! And this Zurich Grand reminds me of the hotel in John Wick. Great opening. I’ve really missed #MacGyver!!" read one of the tweets.

Although the hotel was where the majority of the episode would take place, the central focus was also on the strained relationship between Desi and Riley. "i mean..... there’s a lot of unfinished business between, desi needs to apologize, but i guess in the future they’ll be more comfortable with each other #macgyver," a comment read.
