The fake Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) is so fake he could make one barf. He lies, he is boring, and he cannot hand out favors. Everything fun and sexy about Lucifer is exactly what is missing in Lucifer's twin brother Michael and we cannot wait for Lucifer to break his twin brother's wings! Now that we have got our frustration out at how perfectly Tom Ellis managed to play a hateful twin brother, let's talk about Michael's intention at taking on the identity of his brother. Michael wants to break Chloe's heart to get back at his brother for getting praised by everyone in Heaven for simply doing his job. It's just your garden variety sibling rivalry but between God's kids.

So Michael attempts to pull Lucifer back up to indulging in selfish desires, by "playing with his (Lucifer's) toys" and preying on his brother's fears. He means Lucifer's love for Chloe and his friendships that he has fostered over his time on Earth. He manages to fool even Amanedial but the one person he tells the truth to happens to be Mazikeen. He believes that he can use Maze's anger towards Lucifer to his advantage. Not surprisingly, she lets him continue his act. She does try to explain to Michael that Chloe is smarter than he believes, but he underestimates her. As the episode progresses, one thing becomes clear.

If episode 1 was about Chloe and Lucifer's frustration at being unable to be around each other, this episode is about us bring frustrated that the real Lucifer cannot figure out his twin brother's plans soon enough.

Sharon Osbourne's brilliant cameo, being part of an investigation with one Prince of Darkness, while being married to another and using that reference is hilarious and distracts us from how smarmy Michael is for a few minutes. She even thanks Lucifer for helping her husband Ozzy with that "thing". Between this and Chloe wanting to bone Lucifer to make their relationship better, everything minute of this episode had us gritting our teeth and waiting for Lucifer, the actual King of Hell to make his comeback. Of course, we realized later what Chloe meant when she wanted to "bone" Lucifer in Maze's words, not hers.

Chloe is completely under the fake Lucifer's spell, or so he believes, and she acts like she is making excuses for every change that he has shown to the time that he had to spend in Hell. It is as if she is grasping at the possibility of getting back together with Lucifer. So while she tries to do everything possible to make fake Lucifer comfortable enough to drop his guard around her, Michael figures out that he doesn't want to destroy his twin brother's life but to take it from him. He seems to have gotten a taste for Lucifer's life on Earth and his jealousy, and fear that his brother is better than him pushes Michael further. He wants to steal Lucifer's life and live it while Lucifer is chained to Hell. He does everything possible, including attacking Maze when she realizes that Michael is about to use Chloe by sleeping with her.

What Michael is not aware of is the fact that Maze was right. That humans were smarter than he gave them credit for and so, Chloe figured out pretty early on that the man claiming to be Lucifer is not really the man that she fell in love with. What serves Michael right is that he gets shot at multiple times by Chloe so that she can feel better. She is not someone who can be fooled very easily and to believe that he could fool her was the biggest mistake that Michael had made. Of course, as a partying gift, Michael also reveals something about Chloe's birth that fans have been speculating for a while now in an attempt to ruin the trust that Chloe has when it comes to Lucifer and his feelings for her. Michael reveals how she was a part of a grand plan by their Father, Almighty God before he is cast out from Chloe's life, but will this influence Chloe's feelings for Lucifer?

'Lucifer' Season 5, Part 1 released on August 21 and can be streamed on Netflix.
