Lenny Kravitz makes directorial debut with music video for 'Here to Love' to promote tolerance and diversity

The black-and-white video's message is befitting: Black or white shouldn't matter in a world that needs to look beyond superfluous appearances

Lenny Kravitz, the Grammy award-winning legend, has joined forces with the United Nations Human Rights Office to support #FightRacism—a campaign that promotes tolerance, equality and diversity.

The African-American singer-songwriter unveiled a brand-new music video on December 10 for the anthemic track 'Here to Love' — the original song had appeared on his critically acclaimed 2018 album 'Raise Vibration', and struck a chord with fans, thanks to its candid themes of love, unity and inclusivity.

Notably, Rolling Stone proclaimed the album version as "one of his most striking vocal performances in recent years", and Paste noted, "the sentiment is so needed and so noble that it still manages to raise a few goosebumps by the time the rousing finish rolls around".

In a compelling start to his directorial career, Kravitz has chosen an extremely simple, unvarnished treatment — deliberately focusing on a disparate group of people as they file past a stationary camera. He illustrates an elegant and moving concept: when people from diverse walks of life, regardless of caste, creed, color, gender or socio-economic background, come together for a common goal, the results are often magical and moving. Coupled with the soaring vocals and heartfelt lyrics, the result is a masterpiece that could genuinely inspire people to transcend the self-enforced boundaries that separate us as human beings.

The black-and-white video's takeaway message is stark and befitting: black or white shouldn't matter anymore in a world that really needs to look beyond superfluous appearances and the color of one's skin — it's the only way we are truly going to make any significant progress together on this planet as a species.

Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights." 'Here To Love' reaffirms this universal principle and illustrates the call from Kravitz, "We must all unite for we are one creation, we must join the fight, together we are strong, we must do what’s right in every situation, love each other's lives as you would do your own."

'Here To Love' will be used as the theme song of the UN Human Rights Office’s #FightRacism campaign throughout 2020 and beyond. For more information on #FightRacism visit here.
