On 'The Late Late Show with James Corden', screenwriter, producer and actress Lena Waithe discussed the latest season of her Showtime series, 'The Chi'. Calling the third season of the show "the gayest season ever", the 'Twenties' creator spoke about what fans of the show can expect this season. "I'm so excited to introduce our first trans character this season. Her name is Jasmine (Davis). She's fantastic. We make sure not to shed too much light on her being trans".

The actress and producer also spoke about how she is contributing to the Black Lives Matter. On Instagram, she is simply giving away money to those people in desperate need, those who are worst-hit by the pandemic. Waithe reveals that people don't ask for a lot - just some hundred-odd dollars to pay the bills or to get by through the month - "Sometimes they ask for $248 to pay for a student loan or $100 for gas or rent".

"I'm a big believer in community, I'm a big believer in tribe and I've donated to some organizations and I'm grateful for those. But what we're doing is on ground - there are no tax returns on these [donations]," she said, adding, "I took out $50k from my bank account". The Primetime Emmy Award-winning writer adds that it has been a "humbling and inspiring experience" to "talk to these people and help some folks out".

Viewers were deeply touched by Waithe's contribution to the movement in a simple yet important way. A viewer said, "People taking care of people is what we desperately need. The official BLM is not doing this!! Helping one person at a time is how we make lasting change. Stop sending money to big organizations and start helping those in your own communities...this will change everything."

"What an absolute queen. This is such a good thing to see in all the time of the bad," said a fan.

Waithe is known for producing 'Dear White People' and 'Queen & Slim', for which she won the Black Film Critics Circle's Best Original Screenplay award in 2019.
