Lady Gaga might have put in rigorous efforts to master her accent and demeanor in the upcoming movie 'House of Gucci', but not everyone is impressed. Italian actress Francesca De Martini, who worked as a dialect coach for Salma Hayek for the movie, has remarked that Lady Gaga's accent sounded more like Russian. "I feel bad saying this, but her accent is not exactly an Italian accent, it sounds more Russian," De Martini said, adding, "I was really surprised to be called for this, and I was surprised there wasn’t a dialogue coach on set."

Lady Gaga, who portrays the role of Maurizio Gucci's ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, had previously revealed how she worked hard to perfect her accent. In fact, she took method acting so seriously that she found it difficult to do away with the accent even while off-camera. The Oscar-winning actress and singer shared, "It was nearly impossible for me to speak in the accent as a blonde. I instantly had to dye my hair. I started with a specific dialect from Vignola, then I started to work in the higher class way of speaking that would have been more appropriate in places like Milan and Florence." She further mentioned, "I will be fully honest and transparent: I lived as her [Reggiani] for a year and a half. And I spoke with an accent for nine months of that. Off-camera, I never broke. I stayed with her."

#WeLoveYouGaga trends following rumors of Lady Gaga's failing mental health, fans say she 'saved our lives'

Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, is of Italian descent but she was born and brought up in New York City, USA. She stars opposite Adam Driver in Ridley Scott's 'House of Gucci', inspired by the real-life events that took place in the family behind the luxury fashion brand. Gaga's flawless acting in the trailers has received immense appreciation from film connoisseurs, many of whom have even dubbed her a strong Oscar contender for the role. However, many viewers had difficulty grasping her accent and she was trolled on social media for the incorrect and bizarre dialect.

"Seriously though why does lady gaga have a Russian accent in her new film where she’s playing an Italian woman, why not get actual Italian actors?? #HouseOfGucci," a fan tweeted.

Another said, "house of gucci gonna be so good but ik imma have a hard time getting past lady gaga’s dexter’s laboratory accent."

Dialect coach De Martini was hired for the movie after actress Salma Hayek felt she was having some difficulties with her accent for the role of Giuseppina 'Pina' Auriemma. "I think she heard the accent wasn’t right and she was worried — she wanted to do well," De Martini shared, before adding how she overheard Lady Gaga speaking in an incorrect accent. "I was noticing when I was on set, because I had earphones working with Salma and hearing what she was saying so I could help her to get it right, so I could hear Lady Gaga as well," De Martini noted.

However, many viewers have defended Gaga saying that her accent was not supposed to be purely Italian, as she had to embody the aura of Patrizia Reggiani who spoke with a peculiar accent. Some fans even shared side-by-side videos of Lady Gaga in the movie and Reggiani speaking in interviews to assert how Gaga has perfectly nailed her way of speaking.
