'Chromatica': Lady Gaga's dance-pop album has Little Monsters twerking and crying, 'This is exactly what I need'
Lady Gaga's highly-anticipated sixth studio album 'Chromatica' has finally dropped after being delayed from its originally scheduled release date of April 10, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 'Chromatica' is the follow-up to Gaga's fifth studio album, 'Joanne', which was released in 2016.
The release and promotion of 'Joanne' saw Gaga shift to a softer look, which significantly contrasted with the over-the-top looks and sounds she had come to be known for. She switched out her trademark outfits and colors for a stripped-down look that consisted almost entirely of pink and pastel colors, paired with denim clothing and cowboy hats, and evoking the 1970s.
And as beloved as 'Joanne' turned out to be among Gaga's fans, it should come as no surprise that her choice to go back to the quintessential Gaga sound and look - albeit revamped to keep things fresh - caused her Little Monsters to absolutely lose their minds. With 'Chromatica', Gaga is taking things back to her electronic music roots all while clad in futuristic pink outfits and dancing in new alien worlds. To top things off, 'Chromatica' sees Gaga collaborating with some of the top female artists of modern pop including Ariana Grande and K-pop group Blackpink on the tracks 'Rain On Me' and 'Sour Candy' respectively, in addition to working with legends like Elton John on the track 'Sine from Above', so fans were definitely ready to be blown away.
And judging by the first reactions, that's exactly what they got.
"HAPPY #CHROMATICA DAY I LOVE @ladygaga SO F*CKING MUCH," tweeted one Little Monster right before the drop, while another shared, "A guy wanted to hang tonight and I’m like no corona but also no cause I have to listen to #Chromatica at 9pm. Priorities am I Rightttt @ladygaga."
And with a "Now dance motherf*ckers!!!!!!! #Chromatica" from Gaga herself, 'Chromatica' dropped and graced us with new music from the Mother Monster.
"Yaaaaaaas Gaga #Chromatica," stated one fan, and another said, "SPIN THAT RECORD, BABE @ladygaga #Chromatica."
One fan shared, "I'm like halfway through and chromatica incredible these songs are all so feel good and fun and EMPOWERING. i love this project so much #Chromatica," while another tweeted, "Girl I been twerkin for 10 minutes already #Chromatica."
Many fans found themselves getting emotional listening to the record. One fan asked, "GAGZ Y U DO DIS #Chromatica," while another said, "#Chromatica i am not ok snd help."
"This album is exactly what I needed rn #Chromatica," tweeted one fan, another stated, "Today more than ever, Thank you @ladygaga #Chromatica," and one said, "WE LOVE YOU #Chromatica #ThankYouLadyGaga."
One fan shared, "It feels like 2011 again, idk why I keep going back to that year. Maybe it’s because my life is very similar to the way it was back then and the release dates are almost identical. #Chromatica," and another said, "Artpop i love you but #Chromatica now my # 1."
Some fans were already coming around for seconds, tweeting, "I'm even more excited for my second listen bc the first round rn is just crying and dancing like I see y'all tweeting @ladyGaga lyrics and I didn't even catch em bc I'm going THROUGH it #Chromatica."
It appears 'Chromatica' is already a hit, at least as far as the Little Monsters are concerned. As one fan puts it, "#Chromatica. That's the tweet!"
But the album is also already receiving high praise. Jason Lipshutz of Billboard tweeted, "Chromatica' is many things - a homecoming for @ladygaga, a collection of absolutely killer hooks, a subtly personal record - but most importantly, it's the dance-pop escape we need this summer," while Gaga herself, evidently overwhelmed by the response, shared, "I’m not tweeting cuz I can’t stop crying I’m so happy. Thank you!"
