Kim Kardashian wore the iconic Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 dress to grace this year’s Met Gala with her actor boyfriend Pete Davidson. However, it looks like the borrowed dress that was worn by the reality star for mere 15 minutes got damaged as revealed by two- after and before- photos posted by the Instagram page of the Marilyn Monroe Collection.  
 
The Marilyn Monroe Collection shared photos of the dress claiming that the outfit had “missing crystals” and some were “left hanging by a thread.” Kim Kardashian wore the Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress from 1962 to mark the legend’s 60th death anniversary. The 41-year-old social media star was loaned the iconic gown by officials at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum. For the unversed, the gown was stored in a temperature-controlled environment since it was bought for a record-breaking $5million in 2016.

Did Kim Kardashian damage Marilyn Monroe's dress?

Kim Kardashian apparently lost 16 pounds to fit into the iconic Marilyn Monroe's dress and yet she was slammed on the Internet the day she landed on the red carpet of The Met Gala 2022. Social media users had earlier trolled Kim saying her butt was too big for the dress. In an interview with Vogue, Kim stated, “I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history. I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do.”

While millions of Marilyn Monroe's fans have been pissed after the reports surfaced, a source close to the Daily Mail, said the opposite claiming that pictures shared by the account were not accurate and the allegations that she had damaged the dress were false.  Speaking of the dress, Ripley's said in May, “Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history” adding, “Input from garment conservationists, appraisers, and archivists, the garment’s condition was top priority. Believe It or Not! No alterations were to be made to the dress and Kim even changed into a replica after the red carpet!⁠”

‘Should’ve never worn the original dress’

A few social media users took Kim’s side whereas, other dragged the reality star for the same. “Dude it sits in a Ridley believe it or not. It’s really not that important”, said one user as another shared, “They really let her ruin a historical artifact for an underwhelming look that wasn’t even on-theme.” One user said, “What did we expect? it was an OLD dress, vulnerable dress. Should’ve never worn the original dress at the first place. It could be replaced by the duplicate dress with the high accuracy similarities.”
 
The next one tweeted, “Literally no one ever mentioned this dress before Kim wore it. Now everyone surprisingly cares about this dress.” One user shared, “As someone who thinks the kardashians are the quintessential representation of the rotting societal structure of America, the pre-met photo is edited to death and the post-met photo is a close up. There doesn’t seem to be any additional gapping or strain along the zipper.”  Another asked, “Why are ppl so angry about it?” as, one concluded, “The fault is on both of sides. kim should respect marilyn's wish and never worn original dress. also someone messed up cos the dress should have never been borrowed to kim.”
