'Killing Eve' Season 3 Episode 3: Are Dasha and Konstantin Villanelle's parents?
'Killing Eve' seems to have charted a new road as Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) crossed paths and kissed! Yes, it left many fans shocked and they can't seem to believe it.
But, it is not just the kiss that's pulling viewers into the BBC America series. Many fans are wondering if the makers will finally delve deeper into Villanelle's backstory. What are the origins of the coveted Russian assassin who loves to dress up like a fashionista? Why does she kill for fun and how did she first start? Ever since Season 3 started, fans have been begging for it. They also can't stop wondering if Dasha (Harriet Walter) has a deeper connection to Villanelle.
There are many speculations about her parents and one fan posted a brilliant theory. "What if Dasha and Constantine are Villanelle’s parents!!! #KillingEve." This is not the first time such a thought has sprung up in their minds, only that it was Konstantine Vasiliev (Kim Bodnia) and Carolyn Martens (Fiona Shaw) earlier.
One Reddit fan posted a long time ago, "We've long speculated on this sub that Konstantin and Carolyn are Villanelle's parents. The finale brings up the idea that V will go back to Russia to find her family. It's more intriguing if her relative(s) is not a new character, but someone we already know." He further said, "Konstantin tells V in the finale that they are not family which can mean two things: that he puts his family before V (though in S1 he said to her he loved her more than his daughter) and that he's not her actual father. But there's still the possibility that Carolyn is her mother."
Reflecting upon whether Dasha could be the mother, one wrote, "At first, I thought we'd find out that Dasha is really V's mother. But, I remember back in S1 when a shrink is evaluating V (she's in that fluffy pink dress), she said her mother had "really shitty hair", so that would imply that she knew her mother at one time. Oh well."
Nevertheless, fans are impressed with Dasha's character. "I was impressed that we learned more about Dasha in a single episode (S3E1) than we usually learn about characters in the entire season on other shows. All that Slavic sentimentality but you know she's still a snake. Also, Killing Eve is a rarity in that a 60-something woman is a main character. Now there are two, and they are not trying to make them look younger. It's refreshing," one fan posted on Reddit.
If not Villanelle's mother, fans are happy to see her as the older woman in her life who can guide her. "I like Dasha. She’s like the older and more seasoned version of Villanelle. After seeing V’s great chemistry with a father figure, it’s refreshing to see her with a “big sister”/mentor figure," one fan posted.
Not just that, her antics on the show continue to impress viewers. "#KillingEve is certainly entertaining, but I still can't get over that insanely ridiculous plot device of nobody in broad daylight noticing Dasha putting a baby in the trash. That's a serious 'jumping the shark' moment," one viewer wrote and another posted, "Dasha putting that baby in the trash can was an iconic move #KillingEve."
Talking about the scene, one fan said, "About #KillingEve today’s ep, I loved the fact Villanelle ended up doing a good thing returning the baby to the father! And so cute that it touched her heart making her curious to know about her parents! Konstatin’s answer about it was so suspicious, there’s something in there."
Delving deeper into Dasha's motive this season, one fan posted, "Dasha is such an interesting character. She and V have a background and it didn't end well. Konstantin reminded her she wanted to kill Dasha. She seems intent on getting something (we don't know if it's good or bad) and she seems very jealous of V's youth, skill and accomplishments. I don't buy that she just wants to get her working well so she can go back to Russia. I would almost bet that she's setting V up for something huge that the Twelve want from her or the Twelve want V to do a big job that won't end well."
The BBC America show will air Sunday, May 3, and hopefully, it will soon show Villanelle's past and uncover Dasha's real identity and motive.
