Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell Williams unveil new track 'The Mantra' from 'Creed II' OST
'The Mantra' is the second offering from the OST, following previously released 'Kill ‘Em With Success' which featured ScHoolboy Q, 2 Chainz and Earz
When 'Creed II' unveiled the tracklist for its soundtrack on Monday, we said that it looked like it would give 'The Black Panther' OST a run for its money. In addition to lead single 'Kill ‘Em With Success', which featured the likes of ScHooolboy Q, 2 Chainz, and Eearz, the soundtrack boasts a string of high profile performances including the likes of Bon Iver, Ll Wayne, Nas, Nicki Minaj, Vince Staples, ASAP Rocky, and Rick Ross.
And of course, the biggest billing on the tracklist, Kendrick Lamar, whose contribution comes in the form of the track 'The Mantra', is now available to stream on all major platforms.
Collaborating with Kendrick on the track is Pharrell Williams, who contributes a hypnotic guest verse and the song's infectious hook before Kendrick riddles the track with his impressive array of flows and witty rhyme schemes. Rolling Stone calls 'The Matra' "an understated cut with soft synths bubbling around spit-fire drums." Listen to it below:
'The Mantra' is one of many collabs on the OST. ASAP Rocky and ASAP Ferg team up with Minaj on 'Runnin', while Nas and Ross unite for 'Check'. A posse track called 'F.I.G.H.T.' boasts Gucci Mane, YG, Trouble, Quavo, and Juicy J; while 'Midnight' features Gunna alongside one of the film’s stars, Tessa Thompson.
Executive producer Mike WiLL Made-It curated the soundtrack to 'Creed II', the highly anticipated sequel to 2015’s Rocky reboot Creed starring Michael B Jordan. The soundtrack drops on the same day as the movie's theatrical release — November 21.
