Kelly Clarkson to be honored at Radio Disney Music Awards 2018
Kelly Clarkson will be honored with the Icon Award at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards. The Grammy award-winning global superstar will also perform a medley of her hit songs at the ceremony, which will air on Saturday, June 23 (8:00-10:00 p.p. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel as well as multiple Disney-branded platforms, including Radio Disney, the Radio Disney app, the DisneyNOW app and Disney.com/RDMA. The ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre.
The Icon Award is known to recognize a distinguished artist whose career transcends popular culture and whose music is beloved by generations of Radio Disney fans. It will honor the singer-songwriter for her illustrious career and her influence on the music industry.
According to the Broadway World, the singer's career soared to fame when she won the inaugural season of 'American Idol' in 2002. This multiplatinum artist has since dominated the Radio Disney charts, locking her place with multiple No. 1 songs, including her debut single 'A Moment Like This' and her eighth studio album, 'Meaning of Life'. Her recent singles 'Heat' and 'Love So Soft', have been running for 19 weeks on the Radio Disney Top 30 chart.
Clarkson's voice is loaded with graceful vividity, as it plays a big role in substantiating the emotions that her songs convey. Her songs usually begin with a basic plucking intro, the vocals overlapping with the melody soon. She maintains a monotonous tone throughout, her pitch hitting the upper scale only towards the end of the songs. As a soprano, her voice range spans from E b 3 to G6, possessing the ability to sing complex melisma. Arion Berger, while describing Clarkson's voice in a review in Rolling Stone wrote: "her high notes are sweet and pillowy, her growl is bone-shaking and sexy, and her midrange is amazingly confident."
The presenters of the award include the stars of Disney Channel's hit series 'Andi Mack', Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph of Freeform's 'Marvel's Cloak and Dagger', the Hollywood Records recording artist Sabrina Carpenter, Radio Disney's 'Next Big Thing' JAGMAC, and the winners of ABC's 'Boy Band' and Hollywood Records group 'In Real Life'.
Apart from Clarkson's performance, the show will also feature Carrie Underwood with Ludacris, Meghan Trainor, Charlie Puth, Marshmello, Echosmith and the American Idol Season 16 winner, Maddie Poppe.
This year's nominees include Camila Cabello, Meghan Trainor, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran.
