Does Keanu Reeves do his own stunts?
The action movie franchise, which includes a plethora of slick action sequences more often than not, sees the dexterous 58-year-old star don the stuntman's gear. The ‘Point Break’ star revealed before the release of the film in an interview that he has spent three months just preparing for the role of the eponymous assassin in a four-film odd franchise. “‘John Wick: Chapter 4′ has the most action of any of the ['John Wick’] films, which is saying a lot,” revealed the fan-favorite actor. He further added, “John Wick: Chapter 4′ was the hardest physical role I’ve ever had in my career so far,” before adding, “They really trained me up to be able to have what we call the toolbox," as per Total Film Magazine.
‘John Wick 4’ director Chad Stahelski recently in an interview with Jake’s Take shared a behind-the-scenes knowledge of how he understands which stunt scenes are under Reeves’s expertise and which scenes require a professional stuntman. He shared, “It depends on my gauging of you, if I think you’re a capable human and you’re comfortable with it, that no longer becomes a stunt, it’s a special ability,” before adding, “It’s when you go outside of what I think your limitations or capabilities are.”
He also revealed that Reeves performed almost 90-95 percent of all the stunts from the first two movies of the franchise. The stuntman turned director, who also performed as Reeves’s stunt double in ‘The Matrix’, also admired the ‘Speed’ star’s dedication and penchant for perfection in the action scenes as he said, “Keanu, as far as martial arts choreography and driving goes, he is better in a car than I ever was as a stunt double." He continued his praise by saying, “He does more choreography and executes the memorization of the moves, safety with the gun thing, better than I would say 95 to 98 percent of any stunt person I’ve ever seen”.
