Kanye West will no longer be headlining Coachella, multiple news agencies have confirmed. The singer is reportedly skipping the popular music festival, which he was supposed to headline, due to his messy divorce with Kim Kardashian. The news was not taken very well by social media, as many mourned his absence. Others though used it as an opportunity to pitch conspiracy theories, and ideas like Kanye starting his own festival.

Kanye also skipped the Grammy Awards, where he picked up two wins including one for Best Rap Song. He however missed out on Best Rap Album, a decision that many fans were unhappy with. The wins are just a small silver lining in what is otherwise an extremely challenging time for Kanye, since he's involved in feuds with Pete Davidson and Trevor Noah simultaneously, all while navigating his divorce.

Kanye's Coachella bump should not come as a surprise though. There were calls for the singer to be booted from the lineup following his reaction to Pete and Kim's romance. In fact, there was even an online petition that garnered over 5,000 signatures. Organizers will be thankful they didn't have to step in, as Kanye himself pulled out of the festival.

Kanye pulls out of Coachella

According to CNN, Kanye "did not want to take the stage in the midst of his divorce battle with Kim Kardashian and in the wake of his one-sided feud with 'Daily Show' host Trevor Noah." A source told Page Six, "Kanye is backing out because he wants to stay out of the public eye after all the drama with Kim and Pete, he wants to get help." That follows an earlier report where a source said Kanye told Kim he would "remain quiet and get help" after dissing Pete on social media.

The decision not only means no Kanye but also means Travis Scott's return is further delayed. Scott was supposed to perform with Kanye at Coachella, in what would have been his first-ever live show since the Astroworld tragedy in March 2021. Now with Kanye pulling out, it almost certainly means Scott being canceled as well, but there's no confirmation on that front.

The decision means organizers are now left with a huge hole to fill and fast. Other headliners at Coachella include Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, and Swedish House Mafia, a lineup that isn't exactly diverse or representative of America's music scene. It's unclear who will be called on to replace Kanye, or if his slot will go unfilled after all. According to Page Six, The Weeknd is likely to replace Kanye.

'It’s sad Kanye decided to drop out of Coachella'

Meanwhile, social media had extremely mixed reactions to the news. "Kanye should start his own festival. could definitely compete with Rolling Loud & Coachella immediately," one user tweeted. Another trolled, "If Coachella books Pete Davidson, Pete will have replaced Kanye in the last two things he pulled out of." One person mourned, "It’s sad Kanye decided to drop out of Coachella though. That’s such a huge moment no matter how big you already are."

"Will Smith should replace Kanye West at Coachella. He could slap those stupid wide brimmed hats and flower crowns off all the adults there whose parents still pay for their phones," one person joked. Another trolled, "Funny how Kanye can drop out of Coachella and get all this press, but I drop out of j Sargent Reynolds community college and the media is silent." One person tweeted, "Kanye West dropping out of Coachella with Travis Scott was probably the smartest PR move the two of them have made in a while."

Other users mourned Kanye's decision, while many offered suggestions on who could replace him. The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj were amongst the top recommendations, while others also asked for Bad Bunny or Drake.
