SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: Fans have criticized Kathy Hilton for applying lipstick while on the stage during Mariska Hargitay's acceptance speech at the 2022 People's Choice Awards on Tuesday night.

Hilton, 63, was criticized for her "rude and self-absorbed" behavior as she announced Hargitay as the winner of the Best Drama TV Star award at the People's Choice Awards 2022 on Tuesday, December 6 and then suddenly began applying makeup in front of the cameras. Hargitay's heartfelt speech encouraged listeners to "build a bridge between our differences and our divides" and asked for "kindness, compassion and courage," but all eyes immediately turned to Hilton, who was spotted digging through her glistening Valentino handbag and sighing. The star, whose focus didn't seem to be on the speech, licked her lips before pouting and putting on a glossy pink lipstick. Then, as Hargitay finished speaking, she was observed brushing her lips.

Hilton received backlash from fans on social media for her touch-up, with one person tweeting, "#PeoplesChoiceAwards Kathy Hilton reapplying lipstick while on stage during #mariskahargitay heartfelt thank you speech is the epitome of rude and shows she is so full of herself." Another wrote, "How extraordinarily rude @KathyHilton. I cannot believe I (and every other viewer) just watched you apply lipstick, blot at it and SIGH in the middle of Mariska Hargitay's @peopleschoice award acceptance speech. Doesn't get any more self-absorbed than that. Shame on you."
