Kanye West drops new album 'Jesus is Born' with his gospel group Sunday Service Choir
The Sunday Service Choir, American rap artist Kanye West’s gospel group, has released its new album ‘Jesus is Born’. The album comes a few months after the rapper-producer dropped ‘Jesus Is King’, which was Kanye’s first album since transitioning to gospel rap.
According to the Rolling Stone magazine, While ‘Jesus Is King’ “used gospel as a starting point, pulling textures from worship music to add depth to West’s typically genre-hopping brand of hip-hop”, this new album was promised as a more traditional approach to the genre. Kanye executive produced the album, according to Pitchfork.
Kanye had teased the release of ‘Jesus Is Born’ in November when he had announced his first opera ‘Nebuchadnezzar’. The 19-track album features gospel remixes of existing Kanye’s songs and some other tracks, a lot of which have been performed at West’s events throughout the year.
The following is the ‘Jesus Is Born’ tracklist:
1. Count Your Blessings
2. Excellent
3. Revelations
4. Rain
5. Balm in Gilead
6. Father Stretch
7. Follow Me - Faith
8. Ultralight Beam
9. Lift Up Your Voices
10. More Than Anything
11. Weak
12. That's How the Good Lord Works
13. Sunshine
14. Back to Life
15. Souls Anchored
16. Sweet Grace
17. Paradise
18. Satan, We're Gonna Tear Your Kingdom Down
19. Total Praise
In addition to the faith-based new albums, Kanye has been hosting his gospel series ‘Sunday Service’ in churches and venues across the U.S. In April, he and the Sunday Service Choir performed at Coachella 2019 in Indio, California.
According to reports, Kanye also announced an upcoming sequel to ‘Jesus Is King’ titled titled ‘Jesus Is King 2’ last month. The album will reportedly be mixed by Dr. Dre.
Last month, Kanye had also announced that he might be renaming himself “Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West”.
