NCT Doyoung's 'Marie Antoinette': Air date, how to live stream, plot and all about K-pop star's musical debut

NCT's Doyoung is all ready to make his musical debut with 'Marie Antoinette' and fans are beyond hyped for the singer's new venture. According to a Korean media report,  NCTzens will be able to catch the NCT 127 K-pop star in the musical this July, playing the role of Axel von Fergen.

Doyoung aka Kim Dong-young debuted with SM Entertainment's NCT in April 2016 as a group member of changeable unit NCT U and became a part of Seoul-based fixed unit NCT 127 in January 2017. Along with his globally popular singing career, Doyoung has also hosted various shows and participated in variety shows such as 'King of Mask Singer' and 'Law of the Jungle'. 'Marie Antoinette' will mark the beginning of his acting career.

Release date

According to a news report, 'Marie Antoinette' is slated for a July release, though no specific date has been confirmed yet.

Plot

'Marie Antoinette' is a musical that will portray the ever-so turbulent life of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, who lost her life on a guillotine during the 18th century French Revolution. With the historical setting of 18th century France, the musical will depict the era's colorful costumes, explore the societal rituals and more. Doyoung will play the character of Count Axel von Fersen, a Swedish nobleman who falls in love with Marie Antoinette. Even while faced with adversities that clearly indicate the tragic fate of his love, he is determined to make his own destiny.

NCT Doyoung recently collaborated with SM Entertainment's 'million seller' singer EXO's Baekhyun in the track 'Doll'. The 25-year-old K-pop star was also seen in Midnight Cafe Season 3, 'The Curious Stalker', the MBC series where he played the role of Son Ji Woo this year. Earlier, Doyoung was the emcee of SBS 'Inkigayo', 'M Countdown', 'Show Champion' and 'My SMT'. With his musical acting debut, Doyoung will be flaunting yet another charismatic side of his persona.

Earlier, Son Jun-ho, Park Kang-hyun, Jung Taek-woon and Hwang Min-hyun played the iconic role of Fersen in the musical.

Where to watch and how to live stream?

In 2019, 'Marie Antoinette', the musical was shown at the D-cube Arts Center in South Korea. Mostly the musical runs in theater centers. Stay tuned for more updates on the show.

Main vocalist and musical actor

SM Entertainment artistes are famous for their amazing vocal abilities and live singing skills. With a musical, Doyoung will get to flex his vocal skills, fans sy. An NCT fan wrote, "Let me remind u that not everyone gets the opportunity to be a musical actor, it requieres a good acting skills & amazing vocals and doyoung will be the first NCT member to debut, he'll not only introduce himself as main vocalist but also a musical actor." Another fan quipped, "doyoung being casted to play this man makes so much sense bc he's always singing like he's an emotionally distressed divorced man who only had 5 good days in his entire life."

A fan quoted a report saying, “It is said that he (Doyoung) is practicing hard right now to let (the audiences) hear his vocalization and singing that is suitable for the musical stage.” Another summarized the feelings of all NCT fans saying, "Doyoung has been saying for a while how much he missed performing on stage and now...a musical actor debut. I'm so happy for him!"
