LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: A Polish woman, who has gone viral recently claiming herself to be the missing British girl Madeleine McCann, might be using it to increase her followers on social media, a report has suggested. Madeleine was three when she disappeared from a holiday home in Portugal in 2007 while her parents were having dinner. Since then, the search and investigation into her vanishment have never stopped.

But the recent apparent claims by Julia Wandelt, who is also known as Julia Wendell and Julia Faustyna, have increased complications in the already twisted case. Wandelt, 21, says she has the same marks on her body as Madeleine. On her Instagram page, she has also asserted that her looks match the missing child’s parents — Kate and Gerry McCann.

Do Julia's claims reflect her wish to be famous?

A report by Marca has implied that there are chances Wandelt is using Madeleine’s name to gain more followers on her different social media pages. The young woman has previously expressed her interest in working in films, advertising campaigns, and TV, and has also stated that she can go outside Poland if work demands.

She also has a YouTube channel with over 400 subscribers and more than 30k views. She has described herself there as “Hi guys! I'm 20 years old female vocalist, songwriter, piano & ukulele player." On the channel, she has mainly shared videos of her singing to Billie Eilish’s ‘I Love you’, ‘Never Enough’ by Loren Allred, and more along with her original compositions, like, ‘Painless’, ‘I Must Pay the Price’, and ‘Invisible Child’.

Moreover, it is also reported that Wandelt is on TikTok as well, where she has called herself a singer and music lover. The report added that the woman has shared a total of seven videos of herself singing and playing the guitar. Her first video went out on October 28, 2017, and her last was on January 1, 2018.

Is Julia Wandelt really Madeleine McCann?

Only a proper investigation into Wandelt's claim can reveal if she’s saying the truth or just playing around for a minute of fame. However, a statement on her Instagram account shared recently, said, “To everyone interested in Julia's search for answers, please understand we are in the middle of an investigation. This is a vulnerable woman seeking answers about her identity and her life. Regardless of your opinions, she is a human being who deserves respect.”

It concluded, “When everything is done in the investigation in a few weeks, you can learn more, but more now, please respect this woman's privacy. Her background was challenging and messy. There is no need to spew hatred, judgment, and especially threats towards a person in need. This is unacceptable and needs to stop.”

Also, psychologist Dr Fia Johansson, who is reportedly helping Wandelt in finding the truth, has posted on her Instagram, "What’s so important is to make sure Julia finds herself and identity. When some women ask for help, especially the ones that got abused and went through a tough childhood, it’s my responsibility to help. She is emotional, sad, confused, and scared of the unknown. What’s important is the fact we all have a duty to help her."
