Jon Kasdan teases 'Willow' TV series with image of show's writer's room
With Disney having previously announced that it would be doing a 'Willow' TV series, it would appear that writing for the highly-anticipated series has begun. Screenwriter Jon Kasdan, who is attached to the project, has tweeted an image that suggests that the writer's room for the TV series is now open.
'Willow' is a 1988 high fantasy movie starring Warwik Davis as Willow Ufgood, an aspiring magician who teams up with a warrior (Van Kilmer) to save the land from the evil Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh). The movie was directed by Ron Howard, and written by George Lucas. The upcoming series is said not to be a remake, but a closer look at some of the series' main characters.
Jon Kasdan's announcement was sparing, but telling, showing an image of Willow Ufgood on a board, tweeted with the words "The office is open."
That one, simple tweet has inspired much excitement in the fans, as while the movie had a modest showing in its day, it has since developed a passionate fanbase. Ron Howard is rumored to be a part of the project as well, as he and Jon Kadan have worked together on 'Solo: A Star Wars Story,' where Kasdan apparently hounded Howard non-stop about the show. According to Ron Howard, who spoke on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast about the show, he approves of the television format for the series.
"There are some really serious discussions going on with Jon Kasdan, who was one of the writers of Solo, who kept hounding me about Willow the whole time we were shooting and also hounding Kathy Kennedy," Howard said. "We’re in discussions about developing a Willow television show for the Disney+. And I think it’d be a great way to go. In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool."
